This game can't be placed in the Middle Ages. Shadowgate 64 takes place several hundreds, if not thousands, of years later, and it still seems to be the Middle Ages, since there is no sign of industrial evolution whatsoever. The same thing could be said for the (cancelled) Shadowgate Raven. Thanks.

Indeed, the Shadowgate story does not take place in the Middle Ages, rather it takes place in a world of its own. You can find reference to this in the short story "Before Shadowgate."

Beyond Shadowgate
