Douglas Saunders
Douglas Anthony Clive Saunders (born February 15 1949) to Clive Douglas and Gloria Saunders. He received part of his education fromJamaica College, Kingston, Jamaica. Following such greats as National Hero Hon. Norman Manley and his son, former Prime Minister, Hon. Michael Manley. At this time, Douglas Saunders is the current Cabinet Secretary in the Jamaican Prime Minister's cabinet. He assumed this role on June 1, 2008.
He has spent most of his career as a Jamaican diplomat. He was an Ambassador for Jamaica and most recently held the post of Permanent Secretary in Jamaica's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, he has served in various diplomatic positions for Jamaica, including as Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and Ambassador to the European Union.
He has four sons (Alexander, b.1979, Jason, b.1980 Christopher, b.1982, and Machel, b. 1989), and is currently married to M. Angela Robertson, a lawyer, also from Kingston. They married in August 2007 in Port Antonio, on Jamaica's northeast coast. Douglas Saunders is also the cousin cricketer George Headley(whos statute stands outside of the George Headley Stand at Sabina Park, Kingston Jamaica) and of Revd. Dr. Francisco Xavier Fulencio Cruz, Hon D.D., who was born in Santa Clara, Cuba on November 12,1981. Dr. Cruz also received education at Jamaica College then Trinity Institute. Francisco (Francis) Cruz was ordained in 2001 by th Southern Reformed Episcopal Church, then served as a pastor in Hardee County, Florida, USA.He was envolved in farmers rights and immigration law on a county level. He was seen as an activist going against the County Government.Despite his strong socialist beliefs and practices, he then served in the United States Military. Part active duty and part in the reserve unit, from 1999-2003 during the Iraq war. He received the National Defence Service Medal. Cruz continued his career by serving the City of Saint Louis, Missouri by working with the incarcerated. In 2009, after eight years of service, he was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Divinty. Francisco Cruz continues to reside and work in Missouri. He is not married.
