ant

can someone talk about apache ant ? it's important to tomcat. see Apache Ant —Preceding unsigned comment added by Unixer (talkcontribs) 13:06, 29 March 2006

Why is it acceptible to add links to a commercial book for the purpose of sales, but not to free tutorials that assist in setting up and using Tomcat (similar to the C language page)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Naidim (talkcontribs) 22:05, 11 September 2006

That other articles also violate policy is irrelevant. In the particular case of the O'Reilly book, it's the canonical reference book for the application. Perhaps one has heard of a library? I've corrected the link to a book citation rather than just a normal external link. Chris Cunningham 08:20, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize there was a policy against linking to free information, yet allowing commercial information. As a server administrator for setting up Tomcat I've found "Professional Apache Tomcat 5" by Wrox press to be superior to the O'Reilly's book. What makes the O'Reilly book "canonical"? Also would there be a policy against linking to the (again Free) Tomcat-Book project at http://tomcatbook.sourceforge.net/en/index.shtml? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Naidim (talkcontribs) 19:23, 15 September 2006

Why is Resin, a "competitor" to Tomcat, given a link on this page? I only see it mentioned one in the external links. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.181.51.0 (talkcontribs) 20:19, 22 April 2007

Fair use rationale for Image:Tomcat.png

Image:Tomcat.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

tomcat

A tomcat is a male housecat. There is a snow leopard on the cover. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.33.1.37 (talkcontribs) 22:41, 16 November 2007

Catalina Merge

I believe the information on Catalina should be merged into the Tomcat article. It is not significant enough on its own. As long as the Catalina_(Tomcat) page redirects to Apache_Tomcat it would be fine. A yes from me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lantrix (talkcontribs) 07:12, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Web Server or Application Server

It's given here that Tomcat is an application server or web-server. But apache tomcat is a webserver only right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pradeepnnv (talkcontribs) 05:20, 20 March 2008

My understanding is that it is both an application server (which can then be proxied through to a web server such as Apache HTTP Server) or that it can host websites itself through its web server interface. ~~ [Jam][talk] 20:32, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

mobile and tomcat

Hiii I am doing a project , title is "Infocity on Mobile ".In that I have to give city details on mobile using GPRS. So I am using Tomcat 5.0 and J2ME . I need a help for project report that what should I add in my project... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.245.186.215 (talk) 19:24, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but this is not a forum. We are here to discuss how to improve the article, not how to do your project. ~~ [ジャム][talk] 09:13, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apache Tomcat Software Design Blueprints and Software Metrics

The link below provides access to a resource on an open source web site that publishes the comprehensive detailed design documentation and quality assurance metrics for open source software. The site contains an unrestricted access lite and a restricted full version to comprehensive detailed design documentation supporting OOA/OOD, SSADM, MDA, UML software engineering methodologies richly indexed by a detailed set of detailed QA metric indices. The detailed design is presented as prerendered class diagrams, state machine graphs, state transition tables, case effect graphs, data flow graphs, control flow graphs, data element tables for every unit of code in Apache Tomcat. The QA metrics describe many properties of softwre that are closely correlated with software maintainability, testability, extensibility.

There has been a debate in this space regarding whether linkage to this site from a wikipedia page article is appropriate article content according to wikipedia guidelines. We've read the guidelines and we believe that the content at the site is in the gray area, but we think it still meets the guidelines. It provides vast amount of open source content regarding Tomcat that clearly complements the subject of the article. We invite the readers to judge for themselves.Softwaresavant (talk) 21:30, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
