Hard trance is the "hardest", or most pulsating, loud, and unstable style of trance music.

Characteristics

The style utilizes what are known as "fat" beats and kicks, which are prominent beats with much bass. The style sometimes features a gentle melody often comprised of harps, guitars, pianos, organs, or other related instruments. There is almost always vocals present.

The style contains many characteristics which are hard to explain, such as "bounciness" and "loudness", which both arise from the prominence of the bassline and beat.
