Appearance
Carretera Central (Central Rd.) is an east-west highway spanning the length of the island of Cuba.

It represented an extraordinary economic value during Machado and Fulgencio Batista's administrations. It facilitated faster sugar cane transportation and effective inter-province commuting.
The Carretera Central starts in Pinar del Rio in western Cuba and links all major cities except Cienfuegos and Matanzas. It runs about Template:Km to mi[2] to Baracoa in the eastern Guantanamo province.
