Martin Grech (pronounced ‘Greck’) is an English singer, songwriter and musician from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, born in 1983. He is known for his dark, powerful music, remarkable voice, and frequent subversion of style and genre.

He first achieved serious critical acclaim after his haunting falsetto track Open Heart Zoo was featured on a Lexus car advert on UK television in 2001. A debut album of the same name quickly achieved cult status, with the expansive and eclectic record being compared to the work of Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails and Jeff Buckley, in places. The accompanying British tour saw Grech gain a larger following and further critical support, particularly for his stunning live voice and impressive instrumental performances.

2005 saw the arrival of Martin Grech’s second album, entitled Unholy. It dealt with much darker and more disturbing themes than his debut record, including such lyrical topics as insanity, heresy and death. The songs pushed the boundary of Grech’s music through instrumental experimentation and previously unheard vocal power. As before, reviews were extremely positive and his fan-base expanded. Live performances bore a harsher, more visceral sound and at times became nightmarish, in a perplexingly beautiful, yet unsettling way. This elevated his status in the alternative UK rock music scene and, once more, his popularity increased.

As of writing, Martin Grech is still touring with material from his first two albums and continues to receive very promising reviews.
