Hectares

At Broken River Ski Area you replaced km2 with hectare. They're not the same thing. A square kilometre is 1000m x 1000m = 1,000,000 m2. A hectare is 100m x 100m = 10,000 m2. Stevage 00:55, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

oops - fixed it :: maelgwn :: talk 04:34, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello Maelgwn. I noticed you added several linkspam warnings to Tfred's talk page. Unless I'm mistaken, all of Tfred's additions were before my initial warning. I agree that having to clean up all that linkspam is annoying, but I think Tfred would be entitled to be a bit miffed to receive all those warnings together without having had the opportunity to react to the first one. Gimboid13 08:41, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry - it was a bit hasty of me, i was a bit blinded by the fact that the account seemed to be created only to add links to the one site. :: maelgwn :: talk 13:03, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, But consider

Sorry for removing those parts. Actually I have started a new article named AC motor. It is s huge topic. information is to be added theere, not in the article Electric motor. I shall not remove now. Because you will not consider anything better but reviving again and again. But add the notice of merging please. -- Hermitage17 06:47, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

I had my source for that list. However I shall not do anything further with this article. Rather I shall try to write seperate articles on AC motor, DC motor, Induction motor and Synchronous motor. Please checque the acuracy of those articles. It would be much helpful for me. Again I shall propose a different classification, It's here:

Classifications
Regarding principle of operation
Synchronous motor
Synchronous motor
# Plain synchronous motor
# Super Synchronous motor
Asynchronous motor
Asynchronous motor
# Induction motor
## Squirrel cage induction motor
### Single squirrel cage induction motor
### Double squirrel cage induction motor

## Slip-ring Induction motor

# Commutator motor
## Series commutator motor
### Single phase series commutator motor
### Universal series commutator motor

## Compensated commutator motor
### Conductively compensated commutator motor
### Inductively compensated commutator motor

## Shunt commutator motor
### Simple shunt commutator motor
### Compensated shunt commutator motor

## Repulsion commutator motor
### Straight repulsion commutator motor
### Compensated repulsion commutator motor

## Repulsion-start induction commutator motor
## Repulsion induction commutator motor

Regarding type of current
# Single phase motor
# Three phase motor

Regarding speed
# Constant speed ac motor
# Variable speed motor
# Adjustable speed motor

Regarding structural features
# Open motor
# Enclosed motor
# Semi-enclosed motor
# Ventilated motor
# Pipe-ventilated motor
# Riverted frame eye motor

This is from a book of Theraja. -- User:Hermitage17

This list would not mean anything to the reader. It would be treated better by a short section of writing with the types of motors and what is unique about them :: maelgwn :: talk 09:43, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Tin Hut prod

Hi There, I am happy for Tin Hut to be removed Jameslamb [02/07/07]

Rostrevor College

(Referring to your comment on my talk page) Well clearly I disagree. I agree that the trimming wasn't perfect, but nevertheless, of the changes you did suggest, maybe three or four sentences at most (which I note aren't my own effort) could be described as non-factual or guff. Other than that, the article is entirely factual, and I also note that your Schoolcruft reference is merely a suggested essay, not offical Wiki policy (or even a guideline for that matter). Furthermore, Schoolcruft is a very general concept that negates one's ability to accurately comment on the goings-on of a school - for example, listing past scholars of notable achievement may be taken as puffery, however in our case it is merely a single-line entry referring others to the individual wiki articles where relevant. Whilst I concur that the article is probably more detailed than typical for other schools, I think that is more a testament to Rostrevor boys such as myself who make the effort to maintain it to such a standard. That everyone else's is below the quality of ours, shouldn't be a reason in itself to cut ours down to match. I think you should not lose sight of the intention of Schoolcruft, which is to maintain neutrality in the reporting of school-related articles. For that reason, I don't (for example) say that Rostrevor is a better school than others in the area, nor (also for example) do I brag or boast on the reporting of school achivements. Whilst I can handle positive critism of individual portions of the main article, a wholesale rewrite of the article suggests to me a rival school-related bias, which I find very concerning. 121.45.36.6 13:19, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Chris G Bot

Sorry my bad, i did revert it but sometimes with TW it doesn't rv some bug some where so I left it think it had been rv. --Chris g 12:25, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

WHY DID YOU EDIT THE ASMS (AUSTRALIAN SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS SCHOOL) SITE?

Re:Maelgwnbot

Infobox Bio -> Person

I noticed your bot's going through updating the templates, but it seems to be only partially fixing the parameters. Specifically, it's switching |place_of_birth to |birth_place but leaving |place_of_death as is. That parameter obviously still works, as the infoboxes show up properly, but the Infobox Person template says the parameter should be |death_place just like for birth. Is there a reason for the partial updating, and I'm just missing it? -Bbik 15:04, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Thankyou very much. Silly mistake by me - it should be better now :-) :: maelgwn - talk 22:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

TfD for Mapit

BTW: You might want to participate in the TFD I started on all the other Mapit-* templates at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion#Template:Mapit-Canada-cityscale. Last I checked, it is four unanimous votes for deletion the whole kit and kaboodle.--SallyForth123 02:17, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Puzzled by edit

Maelgwnbot recently made two edits to Heart (band):

 • 12:15, 13 August 2007 Maelgwnbot (Talk | contribs) m (14,972 bytes) (Robot-assisted disambiguation: Cameo) (undo)
 • 12:13, 13 August 2007 Maelgwnbot (Talk | contribs) m (14,955 bytes) (Robot: Automated text replacement (-cameo appearance +cameo appearance)) (undo)

The 12:13 edit makes sense, but I can't see the point of the 12:15 edit.
Can you enlighten me please? Pdfpdf 00:25, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Well spotted! That was just me trying to be too clever and do too many things at once. No logical reason - I had the bot working on similar things at the same time and it must both processes must have looked at the same page at the same time. Hopefully it didn't happen any other times. :: maelgwn - talk 06:02, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Mountain Huts in Kosciuszko National Park

The Mountain Huts should not be included as part of the Kosciusko National Park segment. They are about Heritage and man's use of the land, not the park itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vikingolly (talkcontribs) 07:03, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

What specifically are you referring to? Some coverage of them is required in the article, because they are part of the national park and the heritage of the national park. I understand that specific huts are not required but there could be some content left from previous Merges as a pointer to a more general section on huts to be written in the future. :: maelgwn - talk 07:51, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Intercol(s)

What's "non-encyclopedic" about: The competition extends into the old scholars' associations; the "Old Boys Week" of both colleges are held at the same time, and in addition to "traditional" sports, the competition includes Contract Bridge, Chess and Lawn Bowls.? It's all fact, there's no opinion, and it's NPOV. Pdfpdf 11:40, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

There is no third party references. It's not Notable :: maelgwn - talk 11:45, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Mmmmmmm. Yeah. I suppose so. It's very important to the two school communities and their individual and joint histories and traditions, but demonstrating notability would be challenging. But not impossible. I'll add it to my seemingly endless "list of things to do when I get time".
However, if this bit is NN, I'm wondering why the "Intercol" itself isn't also NN? Cheers, Pdfpdf 11:59, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

I think the Gary Jenkens ref is enough to show that.

If you say so! Personally, I'd have trouble justifying the Messenger as a reliable secondary source, but then I don't have an NPOV on the Messenger ...

Historically it was a lot bigger than it is now outside of the schools. I think that in the 50s and 60s they used to be run at Adelaide Oval and attracted crowds in the thousands.

Yes, it was, they did, and it did. It was never the same once it moved away.
Did you know that in the 60s there used to be an Inter-collegiate Athletics competition between 8 colleges (Princes, Saints, Scotch, Pultney, Kings (now Pembroke), Rostrevor, a combined Concordia & Immanuel, and I can't think of who the eighth was), also held at Adelaide Oval?

I have to admit Im slightly biased against all old scholars entries because they are not actually about the school. There are better things to focus on in school articles, like school history. :: maelgwn - talk 12:07, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Mmmmm. The Old Scholars are a significant part of a school's history, particularly for those schools like the 8 I mentioned above. But with that exception, yes, I agree. Pdfpdf 12:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Well the messenger is enough to show that someone outside of the school is interested. CBC maybe? :: maelgwn - talk 12:43, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

I think so. Either them or Sacred Heart. Pdfpdf 12:57, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: PipepBot edit on en

Hello Maelgwn, this wrong edit of PipepBot was caused by a wrong interwiki in http://war.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arapiles,_Salamanca . I have now removed the wrong interwiki. Thank you for your message. it:User:Pipep 14:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Metric units

I presume that you are looking at the metrication code in my monobook User:Lightmouse/monobook.js

I would be delighted if you wanted to take from it and use it in a bot. Lightmouse 14:36, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

PAC

I don't know what "crufty" means, but I imagine that I agree with you!! Pdfpdf 12:16, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

lol - see WP:Cruft. It seemed to more pushing how wonderful the school is, than providing accurate encyclopedic information. :: maelgwn - talk 12:20, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

And it wasn't doing a very good job of that, either!
Which reminds me of a joke: A new composer consulted Mozart saying: "I have composed two new concertos, but I can't decide which is the better. Could you give me your advice please?". When he had finished playing the first, Mozart said: "Thank you. I prefer the other one."
BTW: Obviously I didn't like the "no references" box. The "improve the references" box is MUCH better. Thanks, Pdfpdf 12:38, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Mount McKay

You recently added a link on Mount McKay, but it led to a red link, so I removed it. When you make the article [[Mount McKay (Australia), add this tag: a mountain in Australia to the top of the page. You can then use the disambiguation page to direct to either mountain's page. vid 18:11, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Sure - i normally find that a disambig page is not neccessary for only two articles. :: maelgwn - talk 22:49, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for your note - and as a result, yes i will move the template, its only used on one talk page currently, so it isnt much of a problem. If you are interested in tagging articles, i will be kicking off an assessment section in the coming months, which will be added to the template, ill be looking at getting AWB to help with it. Cheers. (P.S. feel free to join up!) Twenty Years 14:44, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
