Connaught Armoury
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This building was built in 1911 at a cost of $35,000 and is the oldest armoury in Alberta. It was built to house the B Squadron of the 19th Alberta Dragoons. The armoury was named for Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, the third son of Queen Victoria and the Canada's governor general from 1911 to 1916.
When the Dragoons disbanded the armoury was acquired by the city from the federal government in 1965. The building was vacant for 14 years. The building has been leased out to various restaurants over the years but have not succeeded. As of March 2006, the building is vacant and the city was going to sell it. City council decided to not sell and create a non-profit use for the building.
