Dealing with vandalism

[edit]

Hello, thanks for trying to deal with vandalism. However, I'm not really sure what happened, but you missed some vandalism at the Bloodletting article. You might find Twinkle useful for helping to revert vandalism. Graham87 03:10, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Myoglobin (talk) 03:17, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actually took some time to look into this, turns out what I need to start doing is to rollback vandalism edits (instead of just assuming there was only one bad edit) and Twinkle looks useful for that  :) Myoglobin (talk) 19:39, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient Egyptian tracheotomy

[edit]

I removed the section from the tracheotomy page because of this more recent article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25077413
But you seem to know more than me so it's up to you whether to keep it or not. 121.219.102.19 (talk) 05:04, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I really don't know a whole lot about this; I only wanted to keep the part about the possible Egyptian origin in the article since it's not clear yet whether that happened or not (didn't want to base that on one article alone). I would recommend posting on that page's talk page and seeing what the history experts think about this. Make sure to make an account first so you get credit for your contributions; it's clear you care more about Wikipedia than the average anonymous user :) Myoglobin (talk) 20:33, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

University of Illinois College of Medicine

[edit]

Is it possible that the medical school opened with a faculty of 27 physicians and 3 non-physician instructors (e.g., in anatomy and physiology or biology)? Seems to me that might resolve the apparent discrepancy.

Grammarspellchecker (talk) 05:26, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Grammarspellchecker: Could you please update me on the context of this question? Thanks, Myoglobin (talk) 14:49, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looking back at the UICOM article, I think the issue appears to be wondering what the original faculty composition was for the first medical classes; someone would need to look into the history of the college to determine with certainty who was involved, but I would say as a MS4 that it is possible there would only be 27 physicians and 3 non-physicians for one small class of medical students. Myoglobin (talk) 14:59, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding, Myoglobin. I think the issue is the apparent discrepancy in the number of physician faculty with which the COM opened in 1882. In the History section, the first sentence says that it opened "with 100 students and a faculty of 30." This sentence has been disputed in the article, based on the last sentence of the second paragraph, which says it opened with "a faculty of 27 physicians." You're of course right that research would be needed to decide the issue; my point was merely that the two statements may not necessarily conflict if the original faculty consisted of 27 physicians and 3 non-physician members. (If I've misunderstand you, I apologize.)

Grammarspellchecker (talk) 01:13, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds about right; I hadn't realized the number was listed earlier and that was the discrepancy. Typically more clinical faculty are needed than non-clinical as all students take the same initial pre-clinical classes (such as human physiology and pathology), then later on separate teachers are needed for each clinical rotation (e.g. medicine, surgery, pediatrics, OBGYN, etc.) Myoglobin (talk) 01:46, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia

[edit]

Dear fellow editor,

I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.

All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.

Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.

I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).

The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited It's Over 9000!, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page 9001. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 06:24, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Meetup for Wikidata Day

[edit]

Hello! This is User:Luiysia (IRL name is Kelly). My main interests are fashion, music, literature, and history. I am fairly new to Wikipedia editing and I found that there has been very little activity from the Chicago Wikipedia user group since 2020.

I'd like to host a casual meetup in Chicago to celebrate Wikidata Day on Saturday, October 26.

Proposed location is Engine Coffee in the Wicker Park/West Town area, at 11AM.

Here is the official meetup page, where you can add yourself as an attendee.

(If you would prefer not to see messages like this, go ahead and take yourself off this list.)

Hope to see you all there!

Chicago Meetup for December 14

[edit]

Hello! This is User:Luiysia again. At the last meetup, people expressed interest in having a Wikipedia meetup bi-monthly (that is, every other month). So, here's our December meetup!

The meetup will start at The Bourgeois Pig, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, at 11 AM.

Here is the official meetup page, where you can add yourself as an attendee. See you soon!
