Michael Wijaya Goutama (born 10 July 1961) is an Indonesian engineer and academic, known for his work in renewable energy and sustainability. He has held advisory roles within the Indonesian government, focusing on energy policy, and serves as a professor at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Goutama has been a prominent figure in regional collaborations, particularly within Southeast Asia.

Goutama completed his undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies at the University of Toronto. His Ph.D. research focused on renewable energy systems, specifically solar energy technology, laying the groundwork for his later work in environmental sustainability.

Career

Goutama serves as a professor at the University of Tsukuba, where his research centers on the development and implementation of renewable energy technologies. He is also a member of the University of Toronto International Council, contributing to global discussions on sustainability.[1]

Goutama has advised the Indonesian government on renewable energy policies, significantly contributing to the development of solar energy systems in Indonesia. He also co-chairs the Engineering20 (E20) forum, which focuses on global engineering challenges related to sustainability.[2]

In 2024, Goutama was awarded the Honorary Fellow title by the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO), acknowledging his contributions to engineering and sustainability in Southeast Asia.[3]
