The importance of citations on Wikipedia

Hello Amir, I had to revert an edit you made at Cancel culture because it was unsourced. It is important for material to be supported by secondary sources and to cite them (WP:RS, WP:CITE). Happy editing, —PaleoNeonate10:00, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Like what source? That's the episode itself... Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 12:29, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Roy Schwartz Tichon, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ––FormalDude talk 09:33, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Roy Schwartz Tichon moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Roy Schwartz Tichon, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ––FormalDude talk 09:45, 11 January 2022 (UTC) User:FormalDude Why? The sources are major newspapers and other relyble independant sources. Can you elaborate? --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 13:44, 11 January 2022 (UTC) User:FormalDude --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 13:44, 11 January 2022 (UTC) User:FormalDude Hi I believe the draft is ready (got sources for everything and wrote it a lot better). --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 16:21, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Welcome!

Hi Amir Segev Sarusi! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account has extended confirmed rights (automatically granted when an account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits).

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.

What edit are you referring to? Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 13:53, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yair Netanyahu Doug Weller talk 16:06, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He's connected to Arab-Israeli conflict? interesting. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 16:24, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to make sure you read the notices at the top of talk pages. Doug Weller talk 16:30, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Although a lot, maybe most, articles that are related or have related content won't have notices. If you can't figure out what might be related to the conflict, you'd better stay away from anything relating to Israel or Palestine. Doug Weller talk 16:31, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I find your latter remark really inappropriate and rude. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 06:41, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't post to Yair Netanyahu

Did you never see the notice at the top of the talk page? In any case, I've reverted you - see the notices above that I've added to your talk page. Doug Weller talk 11:06, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I forgot it was a notice and not a technical block, I thought there was a technical block on that option that was removed. Nvm I'll open a discussion. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 11:35, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Most articles or parts of articles, or other pages you are not allowed to post to are not locked. You can't discuss anything related to the topic anywhere. You can make edit requests but read this first:Wikipedia:Edit requests. Doug Weller talk 11:50, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 12:07, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder

Per WP:ARBECR, edit requests should be straightforward of the form change X to Y. Thanks. Selfstudier (talk) 12:37, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote exactly what to add and where... Did you maybe mean I didn't fill the form of an edit request?--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 12:46, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Selfstudier--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 12:49, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not concerned with using the template, the request is unclear, just specify change X to Y and provide source(s), I cannot see from what you wrote what is to be added, it is just a long rambling speech or something. No clarifications, explanations or anything else is needed. Please do like that or I will revert it again. Selfstudier (talk) 13:46, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response, albeit I do not quite understand what do you mean by "speech". That's the researcher's position in the three books I quoted. It's ready made for addition and not a speech. I kindly ask you to clarify your position, or let other users go over and decide instead of reverting, as concluding that it's a speech is highly unreasonable, given the sources and their quality. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 13:49, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You also didn't provide any title and mixed the request in another section so I reverted again. Please arrange the request as I asked, simple change X to Y + source, that's it, nothing else. Selfstudier (talk) 13:52, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but your response is unclear. I wrote where to write (after "In addition, the Israeli government rejected any possible agreement with Palestine as long as it refuses to recognize Israel as a Jewish state."), and I putted in quotation marks exactly what I suggested (what you called "speech", albeit it was a summary of their claims), and added 3 sources from prominent researchers (two books and an article in a book). If you yourself thinks it's too long, please kindly reply that and let the community have a discussion, as my edit suggestion is not out of hand and shouldn't be reverted like that. User:Selfstudier--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 14:20, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please write it as I asked, change X to Y + source(s), that IS clear. Also read WP:EDITXY. Selfstudier (talk) 14:23, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do it as I understand... I hope that's better.--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 14:27, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the irrelevant material and left it written as I asked (three times). Selfstudier (talk) 14:37, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you did something else? There's nothing of my suggestion left. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 14:46, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I left what you called X and Y. Selfstudier (talk) 15:10, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No you did not. My X and Y were both starting from the words "In addition, the Israeli government..." and ending in the words "This is in accordance with the principle of the two-state solution, first proposed in the 1980s ...". I don't really understand what did you try to do but now it makes no sense. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 15:14, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I already said your original request was unclear and I still don't understand it, just put the Y all in one set of quotes. Selfstudier (talk) 15:16, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is in one set of quotes, it's just broken down to paragraphs and contains qoutes. I'll try again soon. Please understand there's not a single irrelevant word - it starts from the x, ending with the y, all the way to the sources. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 15:18, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you are trying to replace one sentence with an entire paragraph full of material including various quotes, that's not going to meet the definition of a simple edit request. Selfstudier (talk) 15:20, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, it's not a "simple edit request", it's a thorough and comprehensive one based on long hours of readings. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 15:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there is an exception from a-i for talk pages. Doug Weller talk 15:20, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean?--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 15:20, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You wrote something else on the article talk page that was not an edit request. Selfstudier (talk) 15:23, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1. What's an "a-i"?
2. OK... Can I please have my edit request installed on the talk page?--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 15:25, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I restored it and have marked it as not done due to it being unclear and requiring a consensus of EC editors. Selfstudier (talk) 15:27, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What's EC editors? If there are questions feel free to ask. I refferred to specific pages. If any of these editors wants pictures from the book let me please know soon because I'll have to return one of them soon. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 15:29, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
EC editors are editors who are allowed to edit themselves. I don't have any questions. Selfstudier (talk) 15:31, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. You said it's not clear so I added an explanation, and I understand it's not allowed because you reverted it. Where can I add an explanation if not on the discussion page then? You did say I need to get a consensus...--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 09:03, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Selfstudier I have found no rule on the top of the page that says I'm not allowed to add an explanation in response to you saying it's not clear. Can you kindly explain to me how did you decide to revert it?--Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 09:07, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Only edit requests are permitted unless responding to a direct question. EC editors (not just myself) will decide action or consensus without the need for further input.
If you really have an interest in the topic area, the better thing to do would be to edit elsewhere until you qualify to edit yourself. This will also allow you to gain familiarity with the way WP works. Selfstudier (talk) 09:13, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK... I'll write to you here the explanation, as you said it's unclear:
This edit request seeks to elaborate on Abu Mazen's account of Netanyahu's demand that Israel's 'Jewish character' be recognized as a precondition for negotiations, as well as the analyses of two prominent researchers, which, to my knowledge, reflect the general understanding of that demand.
The response begins with Abu Mazen's position (which is thoroughly explored in the sources mentioned) and proceeds to explain the researchers' insights. In brief, their analysis suggests that this demand was a strategic ploy intended to derail the negotiations, for several reasons:
  • Such a demand is highly unusual in international relations, as states do not typically 'recognize' each other’s national character.
  • The Palestinian side had a legitimate concern that this recognition could be leveraged to justify discrimination against Arab citizens of Israel.
  • This was seen as an attempt to humiliate Abu Mazen personally.
  • A comparable demand was absent from peace talks with Syria or from Israel's peace treaties with Egypt, Jordan, and even the Abraham Accords (which succeeded them).
  • This demand aligns with the longstanding stance of the Likud party, as expressed by prominent figures such as Menachem Begin and Ze'ev Jabotinsky. --Amir Segev Sarusi (talk) 10:11, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
