Life

Julius was born on December 26, 1979 to Sanne, a chimpanzee at the Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park.[1] At first, Sanne was a caring mother, but after a few weeks, Sanne started ignoring Julius.[2]

On February 12, 1980, one of the chimpanzees bit Julius's and his fingertip was hanging loose. One theory for the bite was that Dennis, the leader of the group, bit Julius to evoke a motherly response from Sanne. This was discovered around 7:00 pm. A keeper quickly called Billy Glad and director Edvard Moseid, who used a hose to get Julius out.[3]
