Vandale is a Dutch heavy metal band.

History

The band was founded in Sittard in 1979 (as "Pharao"), and soon decided to play heavy metal but with Dutch lyrics, under the name Vandale.[1] Founding members were Ed Bopp (guitar), Bert van Klaveren (bass), Hans van Klaveren (vocals), and Luc Garé (drums). Hans van Klaveren soon quits, and Bert van Klaveren takes over on vocals. The name is a play on the Dutch dictionary Van Dale and the Dutch word for "vandals".[2] They were managed by Lou Beerens, a music journalist and photographer, who provides the band with an image and with Dutch lyrics, quite unusual for Dutch rock musicians at the time. Radio DJ Alfred Lagarde produced their first single, "Wij zijn Vandale", and after winning a talent show the band got to tour ten theaters throughout the country.[1]

The regular line-up with which they recorded their two albums in 1981-1982 included Tekkie (real name Peter Titihalawa, guitar).[1]

In early 2020, singer Freek Bos was replaced by Mark Nunumete, and Vandale changed their name to Moondawgs.[3]
