Proposed design for "Recent Changes" Barnstar 2.0
I had an idea for a possible design for the "Recent Changes" Barnstar 2.0 (which is currently nonexistent): A barnstar with a similar layout to, say, the Curator Barnstar 2.0, but with the clock face replaced with a refresh icon (in reference to the "View new changes" refresh button on the Recent Changes page).
I then attempted to create a mock-up of what I envisioned the barnstar to look like. (Considering this was my first time using Photoshop for anything besides cropping/rotating photos, however, it didn't go well--especially since the refresh icon used on the Recent Changes page is a mere 20 pixels in width, and unfortunately real-life doesn't have a magical scale-up and "Enhance!" feature, so the refresh icon is ridiculously blurry) Nevertheless, this is vaguely what I would imagine the barnstar to look like (see right).
Is this design even worth pursuing, or would a different design be better? (For instance, I had a brief idea of having black/red/green colored lines in the background to vaguely resemble the Recent Changes page (as a nod to the design of the Recent Changes Barnstar 1.0), but based on the simplified look of the other 2.0 barnstars, I doubt that this would be a good idea.) Any and all advice is appreciated.
(Also, if someone with a bit more knowledge of graphic art design could retexture my mock-up so that the refresh arrow looks less blurry, that would be massively appreciated.) TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername 00:48, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
- I think this looks like a great design for the Recent Changes Barnstar 2.0. When I get a chance, I'll try to create a higher-resolution version of your barnstar as requested. Noah Kastin (talk) (🖋) 14:54, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
- Went back and improved my original design, so as to create this (see right).
- (Specifically, I changed the center color to white, and replaced the hand-drawn arrow with a clipart icon I found on Wikimedia Commons, then hue-shifted it to match the original hex color (#33bbcc) as closely as possible.)
- There are still a few problems (namely, the fact that there is a small gap between the grey border and and the rest of the barnstar, which I have no idea how to rectify), but overall, I'm relatively happy with the barnstar's current appearance. Any advice would still be appreciated, however.

Duplicate template
There is a duplicate template of Template:Barnstar Barnstar, it's Template:The Barnstar Barnstar. Now Antonu was the one who created the duplicate, so I really don't like questioning his work. He must've had a reason, and I assume it's the title of the template. Most Barnstar templates contain "The" in the title. The majority of Barnstars that omit this are the recently added ones. I add "The" to my templates when it comes to Barnstars. Is there a format style for titling Barnstar templates? — JudeccaXIII (talk) 04:25, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- The difference between Antonu's template and the original is that the original has the option of being either a standard barnstar or a barnstar 2.0, while Antuno's is only a barnstar 2.0. Also of note is the fact that Antuno's template is labeled "The Barnstar Barnstar Barnstar". Other than that, Antuno's template is an exact copy of the original.
- It looks like Antuno didn't like the title of the original template and didn't know how to move it to the desired title. We may not know for a while as Antuno's last activity was in April, after a two-year absence. - ZLEA T\C 11:54, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
The Bahá'í Faith Barnstar
I've created the Bahá'í Faith Barnstar to cover anything related to the Bahá'í Faith. JudeccaXIII (talk) 02:59, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

The Socialist Barnstar
It's been sometime since I've made this Barnstar, but WP Socialism had already aproved it at the end of July. It covers socialism in general. I just forgot to inform this project. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 23:54, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- If I can ask, how will this proposed barnstar differ from The Workers' Barnstar? (Or have I merely misunderstood, where this is a replacement of one of the Workers' Barnstars?) -TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername 05:22, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
- This doesnt have the hammer and sickle and focuses on socialism only. The workers barnstar covers communism as well. This isnt a proposal, WikiProject Socialism has both Barnstars as a option. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 11:13, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
Well, I'm now proposing to remove the Workers Barnstar, A single Barnstar should not cover multiple topics such as socialism and communism. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 01:53, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

What is version 2.0?
I see a barnstar of mine listed on the project page under "Barnstars needing a new 2.0 version". It would be helpful if the description text there included a link to the relevant guideline/discussion/etc. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 16:20, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- No, because you added your Barnstar without consensus, and no one noticed until me. The style of your Barnstar is somewhat 2.0, but it has a white backgroud instead of a transparent one. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 16:24, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

- I think you've assumed that I took offense to your position, and acted accordingly, instead of assessing the situation & my responses, and those of others, objectively (it appears as if you flat out ignored others' responses as well, as you asked questions which were answered prior). Perhaps due to the 'typical' response you generally get here (I have no idea), or that you are that way naturally (also no idea). But either way, it's unbecoming and entirely inappropriate of anyone performing your tasks, or any tasks requiring judgement, and relegates your opinion to nearly irrelevant, at the very least not to be taken seriously.

The Translation Barnstar
I've created an alternative 2.0 Barnstar for Template:The Translation Barnstar. It was on the list of Barnstars that needed a 2.0. I'm not sure if that necessary though. The template had a 2.0 already. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 19:28, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

- When systematically querying online databases in high volume like the JPL Small-Body Database, the Minor Planet Center, the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species, etc., an over-eager Wikipedian can get themselves (their IP anyway, usually) temporarily or semi-permanently throttled and/or banned from those sites. What if someone dosn't want to be identified as previously banned? I really don't think this is necessary for a Barnstar. There are plenty of Barnstars that can be awared for different types of contributions. Remove or Keep consensus
Moving forward, we have all expressed our opinions or somewhat but there is no clear consensus to keep or to remove. It was added origianlly at WP:BARN by Tom.Reding without consensus. At this point, the discussion above is going no where, so lets get this over with. I think everyone knows my position on the matter, that I prefer to see it Remove. Other than being added without consensus, The critera had caused some confusion, but it is meant to be awarded to editors who've contributed outsite of the project as Tom has stated. The other confusion is how do we know if someone has been banned on another database that's not Wikipedia. By this comment, I assume we have to remind them that they were banned from a database outside of Wikipedia? Overall, I don't think it's good to remind people that they were banned from outside of Wikipedia, even if that person mentions it. It's none of our business to quote it. I also don't think this is a positive gesture. More like a awkward or quite possibly rude. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 17:18, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- I personally like it. But I'd say we need input from more people. Maybe from outside the project.★Trekker (talk) 17:22, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Keep - as creator. The description has been updated to address the perceived ambiguity. Banning in this sense is to be seen as a point of pride, a badge of honor of sorts, stemming not from malicious intent, but from the highest regard and effort for keeping massive amounts of pages up-to-date on Wikipedia. This is meant to reinforce that praise and promote such continued behavior (after finding a proxy). ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 17:45, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- My opinion likely won't matter much, but I personally lean towards keeping the Banstar Barnstar (though I will say that I have found the name's similarity to the Barnstar Barnstar to be quite confusing in the past). From what I can tell, the barnstar's purpose is not to insult other users or rudely remind them of their ban, but instead to gently poke fun at the fact that maybe the recipient was a bit too overenthusiastic in their research. Of course, an awarder would have to use common sense to determine the potential recipient's attitude towards the ban (if the recipient is fuming about the ban, then it's probably best not to award it, whereas if the recipient is listing "Got banned from this online database" under their list of achievements on their userpage, the barnstar is perfectly fine), but I'd daresay that one would need to use common sense when awarding any barnstar, so that property isn't exclusive to this barnstar alone. - Keep, I don't see any reason to "Romove". - ZLEA T\C 19:34, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Neutral I'm still not clear how someone is supposed to know when to award this. I suppose in some of the science portals it could be a bigger deal (I guess I can see this coming up in astronomy related topics). So my take on it is really rather "meh". I don't think it's needed or warranted, but I also don't see any harm in having it in place. Will (talk) 17:54, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
The consensus is quite obvious, so I've taken the liberty of remastering the Barnstar to a 2.0. I personally think the Barnstar should be moved to "The Database Ban Barnstar". — JudeccaXIII (talk) 15:00, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

- @JudeccaXIII: that looks very nice, good work. I definitely prefer the transparent circle-slash to the solid grey. My only concern is the blue barnstar. I specifically chose the File:Barnstar of Diligence Hires.png as the base for the original, due to diligence required by the recipient. I created a BoNM2.0 for ROC/Taiwan... @ZLEA: how do I add an alt to the template? — Will (talk) 13:50, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- Wegates Done, although I think you should know that Taiwan (the nationalist China) is the "Republic of China", not the "People's Republic of China" (the communist China). - ZLEA T\C 14:48, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- ZLEA National Merit Barnstars are added at Wikipedia:Barnstars 2.0/Barnstar of National Merit, not the main list. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 15:26, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- ZLEA I thought I had put ROC on it...do I have PRC someplace? if so I can fix and upload a new version to commons... — Will (talk) 15:53, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- Wegates You named the file "BoNM 2- People's Republic of China Hires". I've made a request that the file be renamed "BoNM 2- Republic of China Hires" at commons. - ZLEA T\C 19:46, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- ZLEA ahh... and that's not something I can directly fix! I can rename my file, upload it fresh and put in a speedy delete on the old file though.. — Will (talk) 02:19, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Wegates There's no need, a file mover has renamed the file. - ZLEA T\C 12:10, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Jainism Award 2.0
I've created a Barnstar 2.0 for the Jainism Award for WP:JAIN. I know the original used the Swastika, 3 dots, and Siddhashila from the Jainism Flag but using the Ahimsa felt like it might be a little less politically charged and is equally appropriate as it's also part of the Jain symbol. The background colors are straight off the Jain flag (yes, the white is supposed to be wider). Will (talk) 17:05, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
Added a slightly different version that increases the size of the front-piece... opinions on these? Will (talk) 17:20, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

- I like both of them, but the first one a little more, I like that the circle fits within the stars own.★Trekker (talk) 17:26, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- Will You're having issues with the writing on the symbol. Is that why you presented another Barnstar with a larger symbol? — JudeccaXIII (talk) 19:30, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- The problem with working in larger SVG's is that what might look decent at full size can get weird looking at smaller sizes. The whole thing felt compressed to me once I had it uploaded and rendered, so I tried a larger format as well. So yes, the writing is part of it. — Will (talk) 11:12, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
- I tried working on this in July. I was using the same symbol, but the writing was difficult to see. I even cropped the circle in the hand but still had issues. — JudeccaXIII (talk)
- I link the first one better. - ZLEA T\C 22:26, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Too many awards?
To editor JudeccaXIII: We have too many awards, is that the problem? If you discuss and develop consensus to redirect a barnstar, that's fine. Without discussion you seem to be implementing a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:28, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- Just redirecting barnstars that have the same purpose. Since you oppose change, I'll undo my edits. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 23:30, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- Having too many awards for the same purpose is a problem. I suggest that for each set of like-awards, we decide (or we let the appropriate WikiProject decide for topical barnstars) which award is displayed on this page. Instead of redirecting the other award, we should leave it as an alternative to the main award and list it somewhere else. - ZLEA T\C 01:27, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

- I would keep the Barnstar Barnstar and the Anti-Vandalism Barnstar listed here. I'm not sure about the BarnSakura/Anime Barnstar, as I think we should let the anime and manga WikiProject decide which award they would prefer listed here. Again, I don't like the idea of redirecting the other awards, as there may be some users who prefer to use them. Instead, we could move them to the Personal user awards list. - ZLEA T\C 13:01, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
"Having too many awards for the same purpose is a problem."
How so? I oppose all these redirects until it's explained to me why this is necessary. Chris Troutman (talk) 13:05, 18 September 2019 (UTC)- What I meant was "having multiple awards for the same purpose listed in the main barnstar list is a problem". I have no problem with having redundant awards, but I have a problem with listing all of them on the main list. - ZLEA T\C 13:25, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

{{subst:The Anime Barnstar|put your message here ~~~~|alt}}
will display the blue barnstar 2.0 version. - ZLEA T\C 22:08, 18 September 2019 (UTC)- Again, why? What problem does it present when there is more than one award for the same purpose? Chris Troutman (talk) 22:49, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
- Chris Troutman This project has a goal of remastering Barnstars to 2.0 versions. I don't think editors who work on creating Barnstars should obligate themselves to remastering duplicates, even if a duplicate has been approved through previous consensus. For me, redirecting copies. As ZLEA states above, his option is friendlier by adding copies to Personal user awards. I don't oppose. We both agree these shouldn't be on the main list. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 00:50, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for answering the question. I don't think the barnstars should be remastered nor do I think this group of editors should take it upon themselves to change awards ostensibly awarded by WikiProjects. Chris Troutman (talk) 14:06, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

- Looks good. - ZLEA T\C 18:38, 25 September 2019 (UTC)
- Will There's nothing wrong with the original 2.0. Increasing the size of a Barnstar does not mean the quality has increased, and what I've seen with your Barnstars lately, the sharpness on the edges have been more noticeable. The only reason I can think of is the size of the file. These large files are going to look more pixelated when they are set to 100px in the templates. There is no guideline on how to determine the size, but other than your Barnstars, the largest and most common size I've seen when it comes to the dimensions of Barnstars are (2,000 × 1,900 pixels). Censored barnstar
A few days ago I saw a user on an admin's talk page asking to have their IP block exempt user right renewed because they used a proxy to contribute from the People's Republic of China, where Wikipedia is censored. I propose an award for editors who live in countries where free knowledge is censored but find ways to contribute anyway. - ZLEA T\C 22:53, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- I don't have access to Photoshop right now, but regardless, here's my rough idea for the barnstar design (whipped up in MSPaint in the span of five minutes):
- Any suggestions? I think the wall could be retracted slightly so as to reveal more of the barnstar, but that's up for debate for now. (I'll need to go back and set the background to transparent, redo this in the proper 1900x2000px dimensions, etc. anyways.) TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername 06:29, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- I like it, but yes, I would cut the wall back a little. I would also add the colors of the free speech flag to the barnstar. - ZLEA T\C 13:31, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Queer barnstar?
I was thinking maybe we could change the name of the LGBT barnstar and the LGBT Studies barnstar to be the Queer barnstar and the Queer Studies barnstar, to encourage writing about queer subjects that don’t fall under LGBT, such as asexuality. Trying to give barnstars
I'm trying to award barnstars to the participants in today's #citeNLM Wikipedia edit-a-thon, but I keep getting messages saying the user pages do not exist. I know they exist, because the people made edits and signed up in our Outreach Dashboard. I don't want to create the user page without their permission, and I'm confused as to why they don't have one? Medlib.here (talk) 02:40, 21 November 2019 (UTC)November 20, 2019; 6:40 PM ; Medlib.here
- Just because one creates an account does not necessarily mean they have created a userpage yet, so I'm guessing the contributors created an account but didn't create a user page yet. (You can tell when someone has a userpage or not by whether their name is redlinked--if it is, their userpage hasn't been created yet.) You could still give them barnstars on their talk pages, however (and it's absolutely fine to create a user's talk page if it doesn't already exist). TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername 05:14, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- I've been given barnstars on my talk page. If a user page does not exist, it's quite alright to give barnstars on talk pages. Bill Pollard (talk) 16:54, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

hi. I have a question about Wikipedia:Personal user awards. sorry to ask such a basic question, but what is the code to use to insert the awards on that page? sorry if I missed this data somewhere. I looked for it, but didn't seem to see it there. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 21:22, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- I believe all of the code for the awards on that page is under subpages that are linked to directly underneath each section header ("Main page: ...", etc.). I'm not sure whether you're trying to add an award or give an award to another: if the former, you can simply upload the image to Commons' Upload Wizard and model the code for the other awards to add yours. If the latter, though, I think you'll have to add the award box, etc. yourself. I found a quick model for Phoenix's Dead Rat Award on LilHelpa's awards page, and tried to generalize the code: ...which you can change as need be. Wikiproject Malta
I'm looking to create a Barnstar in recognition of contribution to Wikipedia:WikiProject Malta and other Malta related pages - certainly there are a great number of contributors who deserve one. People who change their minds
IMO one of the hardest things for editors to do is to admit that they've changed their minds. If you're lucky, you've seen it happen: someone holds an opinion, and in the middle of a dispute, says, "You know what? I (re-read the source, thought about what you said, considered the new information provided by User:Example, slept on it, whatever), and I've changed my mind. I originally thought this, but now I think _____."
This is hard to do. First you have to think, and then (if you come to a different conclusion), you have to be brave enough to say so in public. I think this is behavior that we should be encouraging and rewarding. Could we have a barnstar for this? I don't have great ideas for the name, but maybe a Barnstar of Fearless Logic? WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:27, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- Seems like a good idea.★Trekker (talk) 17:32, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
- WhatamIdoing: I second it. You might want to look over on Reddit -- they have a similar concept in a sub called "Change My View". (Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/changemyview/) They have a practice of awarding "deltas" to people who are particularly persuasive. Maybe incorporate a delta symbol somehow? -- φ OnePt618Talk φ 07:05, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
@WhatamIdoing: I've created Template:The Persuasive Barnstar. Jerm (talk) 15:47, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Could someone add this at WP:BARN under sub-section "General barnstars" with a well-typed criteria? I'd greatly appreciated it, thnx. Jerm (talk) 05:46, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
I know I'm going against the grain here, but I do have two concerns with this barnstar:
- The current title ("The Persuasive Barnstar") seems to praise the person doing the persuading, as opposed to praising the person who was persuaded. "The Persuaded Barnstar" or "The Persuadable Barnstar" would be better, but I feel they could still be improved. ("The Amenable Barnstar" or "The Receptive Barnstar," maybe?)
- I feel like this award could be abused by someone switching their point of view in a debate not because they have truly changed their minds, but instead to "win" a barnstar. Granted, I don't think anyone with over 100 edits would do such a thing, but I feel such behavior is within the realm of possibility and is thus worth mentioning.
(Also a quick suggestion: perhaps we could add a U-turn symbol to the center of the barnstar? I feel that would better illustrate the concept of this barnstar whilst preventing it from being mistaken for another.) TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername 06:43, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- @TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername: I don't mind changing the name to "The Persuaded Barnstar", but I'm not adding any symbol to the barnstar. The title and color alone is distinguishable from other barnstars. Your concern for the barnstar being abused though is very likely. I'm defiantly considering taking it down. I don't want my work ending up like the Guestbook Barnstar. Jerm (talk) 07:33, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
@WhatamIdoing: User:TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername makes a very valid point. The possibility of this barnstar being abused is most likely. What are your thoughts on the matter? Jerm (talk) 02:10, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Jerm, I think it's fine to pick another name. People are sometimes persuaded by others. They're sometimes just thinking it over themselves ("Thoughtful Barnstar"? "Thinking it Over"?). They're sometimes thinking about the problem from another perspective or incorporating new information ("Changing Perspectives"? "Taking a Second Look"?). And publicly admitting that your first response wasn't the best you could do is an act of courage and community-building (because if I say I'm not perfect, then it becomes safe for others to say that they're not perfect), so that's another set of concepts that might generate a reasonable name. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:02, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- @WhatamIdoing: The ideal behind your barnstar sounds much like the "What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar" and maybe the Barnstar of Diplomacy. It was a good suggestion, but I think the two already at WP:BARN are sufficient enough. Jerm (talk) 00:20, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- I think that "What a Brilliant Idea" is about coming up with a new idea, rather than changing your mind (which could mean saying that your previous new idea isn't brilliant after all). The "Barnstar of Diplomacy" is about helping other people work together, rather than being one of the thoughtful and collaborative people yourself. I think you should keep this. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:45, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- @WhatamIdoing: You and @TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername: can figure out what the title of the barnstar should be. I just put "Persuasive" because I thought it was the best title that fits the idea of the barnstar. I still agree with TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername about the barnstar being abused, and I don't think a well descriptive criteria can fix it. I also think the "What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar" already meets your request (example: "I change my mind. Your idea/suggestion was very persuasive. Thank you! ~~~~") Maybe you can come up with something new? Jerm (talk) 03:24, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- The example I have in mind sounds like this: "I saw that you said X in this discussion on Monday (a discussion that I have nothing to do with myself), and on Tuesday, I saw that you said you'd changed your mind. Thanks for having the courage to publicly say that you'd changed your mind. Every time people say something like that, it makes it feel safer for other editors to say that they'd had second thoughts, too." WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:55, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

@WhatamIdoing: Are you satisfied with the current title "The Persuasive Barnstar", or do you prefer another? Jerm (talk) 17:48, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- I'd prefer another. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:54, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- @WhatamIdoing: What title do you prefer then? Jerm (talk) 20:39, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Barnstar Idea
I had created these two barstars some time ago. The image in front of the barnstar depicts a diya, also used in Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. "The second one (black barnstar) ... suggests bringing light into darkness, exactly the kind of thing a potential barnstar recipient might have done." (quote from the discussion which led to the creation of this barnstar took place here on the Noticeboard for India-related topics). The idea was given by User:Kautilya3.
What would be the process to get this formalised and placed in the main list for everyones usage like a normal barnstar? DTM (talk) 12:31, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- @DiplomatTesterMan: I like the visual design. What do you have in mind for the purpose of the barnstar? "Bringing light into the darkness" is a nice start but I think that more specificity would be best. ↠Pine (✉) 01:47, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Pine, this is designed as a Hinduism barnstar, to be given to editors that make strong contributions to Hinduism-related articles. The present template:Hinduism Award is very traditionalist. This is designed to be more modern, and also broader, covering Hindu culture, festivals, and social topics etc., for which the traditionalist barnstar wouldn't be very appropriate. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:41, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Kautilya3, am I correct in saying that the new barnstar would cover modern Hinduism while the current barnstar would remain as it is? 17:57, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
I thought this was going to be a barnstar to a topic not covered by any barnstar. If you're proposing to replace the Hinduism Award that has been around since 2006 then I oppose. There is no need to replace an established barnstar. Also, the Om symbol is far more recognizable. Jerm (talk) 17:27, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Don't we allow two types of barnstars per topic? For Hinduism, there is only one at present.
- Note that Hinduism is very diverse. Not all aspects of Hinduism correlate to "Om". -- Kautilya3 (talk) 19:37, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Kautilya3: We either remaster or create an alternative design per WP:B2G. The Hinduism Award does not need it because it already has the original and the remastered version in the template. Multiple barnstar templates that cover the same topic are considered duplicates, and it was already discussed last year that duplicates shouldn't be on WP:BARN. Jerm (talk) 20:07, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Categorization of barnstars
While subcategorizing templates in Category:Wikipedia barnstar templates, I've noticed that a lot of templates in the category are not technically barnstars, but just awards, with no star in the imagery. I wonder if it would be better to rename all subcategories to replace the word "barnstar" with "Wikipedia award"? This would also allow to subcategorize the Category:Wikipedia award templates.
For tracking purposes, the Category:Wikipedia barnstar templates could be added to template pages by Template:Barnstar documentation. It would also make sense to rename the template to {{Award documentation}}. Non-barnstar award templates then can be excluded from the automatic tracking categorization via something like a parameter |barnstar=no

Merge Wikipedia:Barnstars 2.0/Awards by WikiProject
Hello, the page Wikipedia:Barnstars 2.0/Awards by WikiProject has had a merge tag since July 2018. I believe that page was started by Antonu for the purpose of remastering and creating new barnstars. Most of the time though, editors would just make a request at his talk page rather than here in this project. Since Antonu is no longer active and is even considering retirement, I think it would be good to merge the barnstars there to WP:BARN and close Wikipedia:Barnstars 2.0/Awards by WikiProject. For anyone who doesn't know, Antonu was the one who created File:Original Barnstar Hires.png and the Wikipedia:Barnstars 2.0/Guidelines and took responsibility for remastering and creating new barnstars. All request now come to this talk page and should come only to this page. Does anyone disagree with the merge? Jerm (talk) 01:10, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Translation, communications, and interlingual or international relations barnstars
-
Translation barnstar
-
Rosetta barnstar
-
Interlingual barnstar
There are at least 3 barnstars for translation. The first 2 are listed on Wikipedia:Barnstars. I propose grouping these 3 barnstars in a separate table so that users are aware that there are at least 3 options for similar activities and can decide which one they want to use when giving a barnstar. ↠Pine (✉) 06:29, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Pine: I wouldn’t dedicate a table for translation barnstars. Instead, just keep the Rosetta Barnstar since it’s the most used and is already implemented in the Wikilove module. Get rid of the others. Jerm (talk) 12:40, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- I think the Interlingual barnstar should be dedicated to the subject international relations instead. Jerm (talk) 00:37, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
@Jerm: I like the interlingual barnstar for international relations also, but it has already been used on Meta for interlingual work, although I could propose it for use on ENWP as an international relations barnstar. I would like to re-purpose the translation barnstar but I'm not sure what to use it for. Do you have suggestions? ↠Pine (✉) 01:48, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Pine: Even though it's being used as the translation barnstar in sister-projects, the Interlingual barnstar has only been awarded twice here on the English Wiki. And we don't need to rename the image file. Just gotta make a new barnstar template and name it "The International Relations Barnstar". The Translation barnstar doesn't have to have a new purpose. It can be added at Wikipedia:Translation, but it can't be on WP:BARN since the Rosetta barnstar is there already. Jerm (talk) 02:45, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Jerm: I have started a 3 part RfC, which you can see below. ↠Pine (✉) 03:16, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
@Pine: I don't expect anymore participants in the RfC. I think the Translation and Interlingual barnstar should just go. The Rosetta barnstar is already in the Wikilove module, and if it's suddenly removed from there, the response from other editors won't be very positive. Jerm (talk) 02:00, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Jerm: I will look at this and get back to you probably sometime next week. Please feel free to remind me if you haven't heard back from me by April 3. Thanks! ↠Pine (✉) 01:49, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Proposed changes to barnstars regarding translation, communications, and international relations
Should previously awarded Translation barnstars be replaced with Rosetta barnstars, should the current image for the Translation Barnstar be re-purposed as an image for a new "Communications Barnstar", and should an "International Relations Barnstar" be created? (Because Proposal 1 affects existing barnstars, I am taking the unusual step of creating an RfC regarding barnstars.) ↠Pine (✉) 03:10, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
Proposal 1: Replace all existing Translation barnstars with Rosetta barnstars

A Translation barnstar
-
A Rosetta barnstar
- Neutral. ↠Pine (✉) 02:55, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support —¿philoserf? (talk) 03:17, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Weak support. The two barnstars seem to be for slightly different purposes based on their descriptions on the Barnstars list (the former being for efforts specifically related to Wikipedia:Translation, and the latter being for translation efforts in general). At the same time, however, the former has a mere fifteen transclusions compared to the latter's 204, so I could see how the former could be considered redundant. — TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername: posted at 18:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Stong Support for the Rosetta barnstar The Rosetta barnstar kind of replaced the translation barnstar a long time ago when it was added to the Wikilove module. Just get rid of the Translation barnstar. Template:Telecommunications Barnstar already covers the communication topic. Jerm (talk) 04:27, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Proposal 2: create a new "Communications Barnstar" which will use the image that was previously used for the "Translation Barnstar"
Create a new "Communications Barnstar" which will use the image that is currently used for the "Translation Barnstar" on English Wikipedia, and remove the current "Translation Barnstar" from the list of barnstars. The description of the Communications Barnstar will be "for excellence in Wikimedia communications or excellence in contributions to articles regarding communications".
- Support. ↠Pine (✉) 02:55, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Neutral —¿philoserf? (talk) 03:18, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Conditionally support the creation of a "Communications Barnstar" if and only if Proposal #1 passes, but oppose using the same image; the Translation Barnstar's symbol is derived from the Wikimedia ISO 639 icons (see here as an example), which to my understanding are used almost solely in matters regarding translation. Also, I feel the barnstar should be only "for excellence in Wikimedia communications," as the Telecommunications Barnstar already exists for the latter purpose. — TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername: posted at 18:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Template:Telecommunications Barnstar already covers the topic. Jerm (talk) 04:27, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Proposal 3: create a new International Relations Barnstar

- Oppose —¿philoserf? (talk) 03:18, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support, but the barnstar should be for either "excellence in contributions to articles regarding international relations" or "excellence in international relations among Wikimedians," not both simultaneously. (If Proposal #2 passes, the barnstar should only be for the former purpose, as the "Communications Barnstar" would cover the latter purpose.) — TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername: posted at 18:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

Sock-catcher barnstar
There has been some previous discussion (see archives 10, 12, 13) about a star to award to someone who puts in a lot of effort to collect evidence and report disruptive sock-puppets. But nothing seems to have been decided; is that right? I don't much like the designs suggested. How about a simple image of a sock sticking out of a wastebin? Zerotalk 01:07, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- I've always thought that would be a good idea as well. The question would be where to get the assets. It might be possible to extract the sockpuppet from File:Sock puppetting.svg and combine it with File:Oxygen480-status-hidef-user-trash-full.svg? I'd be happy to give it a try. — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs 13:00, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

We need a barnstar for history!
We need a barnstar for items related to WikiProject History. yes, history. why is there no barnstar yet for this? could someone please assist in crafting one? Please ping me when you reply. by the way, I am a coordinator at WP:History. --Sm8900 (talk) 03:31, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- okay, correction to previous note above; I just discovered that Epic barnstar is for history topics. I never observed that before, and I have not seen this barnstar used noticeably; so therefore, I expanded the title of this award to make it more visible.
- However, I would still like to request a new barnstar for WikiProject History. is there a way to request that someone who has the technical skills to please assist with this? thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 03:37, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

100K Barnstar?
I think this proposed new barnstar could award users who have made at least 100,000 edits. So far, I haven't found a Wikipedia award that mentions awarding users for editing 100,000 articles. The proposed description would either be "(Title placeholder) is awarded to those who have made at least 100,000 edits." or "(Title placeholder) is awarded to Wikipedians who have contributed so much that they made at least 100,000 articles." --AlphaBeta135 (talk) 00:21, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- AlphaBeta135 That already exists, as do barnstars for 10K, 25K, and 50K edits. - ZLEA T\C 02:25, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- These, and other awards are displayed on the page Wikipedia:Personal user awards. —andrybak (talk) 12:39, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- I thought this barnstar is in the Barnstar list because it is, well, a barnstar. Why isn't it included in the Barnstar article?--AlphaBeta135 (talk) 13:14, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- AlphaBeta135 Because reaching a certain number of edits is not necessarily something that one editor would award another for. It's meant for users to award to themselves when they reach that edit count, in a similar fashion to service awards. Also, the barnstars on the list are generally awarded to users for the quality of their contributions, not quantity. - ZLEA T\C 16:25, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Highway Barnstar?

I propose that Template:The Barnstar Creator's Barnstar be redirected to Template:The Barnstar Barnstar. They both have the same criteria hence:

The Barnstar Barnstar was created to recognize Wikipedians who have contributed to Wikipedia by creating and awarding barnstars.
It has already been discussed in the past that there shouldn't be barnstars with duplicate criteria @WP:BARN. I've chosen the Barnstar Creator's Barnstar to be redirected because it has not been remastered yet, nor should it be since the Barnstar Barnstar has already been remastered. New Barnstar Idea 2021
Okay! So, I was recently given a barnstar by Doggy54321 for my signature and my user page and how colorful it is (thank you by the way), so I was thinking, what if I create a barnstar that gives a users that has a cool signature for themselves. If you like the idea, please {{ping}} me! Thanks! Jack Reynolds (talk to me!) (email me!!) 13:55, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- @JackReynoldsADogOwner: That’s a great idea! I’d also support a barnstar being created for userpages (to say "Hey, your userpage looks cool" or something). D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 14:39, 4 February 2021 (UTC) (please ping on reply)
- My primary concern with the user page barnstar idea is that I feel it might encourage users to design grandiose user pages that end up violating WP:NOTWEBHOST. (I suppose the same could be true with the signature barnstar and leading people to create grandiose signatures that violate WP:SIGAPP or the other policies regarding signatures.) Regardless, I think the Special Barnstar could already be used in both cases.
(Also, Jack Reynolds, you can use the {{tl}} template to automatically render template names in brackets without having to resort to using wikilinks in the future. Just so you know.) — TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername: posted at 19:38, 4 February 2021 (UTC)- @TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername: Thank gosh your username is one word that I can just copy and paste, I would have had a heart attack trying to type it all out (no hate, it’s just really long [really funny as well]). Anyways, I think what Jack was trying to get at is that there are certain userpages and certain signatures that deserve a barnstar. For example, a couple months ago someone gave me a barnstar to say that my signature was awesome. As well, I gave Jack a barnstar to say that his userpage was well organized and that I loved it. I guess the special barnstar would work, but I was the catalyst for the new barnstar idea and I think Jack just wanted to build on that. Thanks! D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 20:33, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

And I know the signature isn't much of an achievement, but, it's the little things that matter. When D🐶ggy54321 gave me the barnstar, it really felt like I belonged here. And it also lifted my spirit. And we don't know what other users are going through with these tough time, and maybe, if we can at least lift someone's spirit, I think it's worth it. Additionally, thank you for the {{tl}} part, user:TheHardestAspectOfCreatingAnAccountIsAlwaysTheUsername! Jack Reynolds (talk to me!) (email me!!) 23:26, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- JackReynoldsADogOwner All barnstars lift spirits up. That's part of their purpose, to show appreciation to editors who've displayed an outstanding contribution/s. Here's what really bothers me more than anything though. It sounds too similar to that of the Guestbook Barnstar (see TFD/2008_March_19#Template:The_Guestbook_Barnstar). Basically, barnstars were always given out to editors who had signed someone else's WP:GUESTBOOK. That's not an accomplishment, the same applies to this proposal. It devalues the barnstar process. The Barnstar of Discord
I have an idea for a barnstar. This one is for Wikipedians who has a good reputation in the Discord. Do you think this idea is good? MarioJump83! 14:58, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not too fond of this idea. There's a couple of issues. The title, Discord isn't really the only application for communicating with others. The criteria, why is someone's reputation relevant? It should be more for awarding someone who has provided help/assistance. Finally, using Discord or any other application to communicate is a personal choice which is not an accomplishment on Wikipedia. Jerm (talk) 18:52, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
Political Barnstar proposal
I have an idea for a barnstar, this can be rewarded to users who contribute a significant amount to pages related to politics. Is it acceptable?
Pink Saffron (talk) 01:16, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
- Pink Saffron Politics is such a sensitive thing to discuss. I don't believe this talk page should determine the barnstar design. It's better if you introduce this to the WikiProject that covers the topic via WikiProject Politics. Jerm (talk) 02:39, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Request for new award, re WikiPrairie Dogs
Hi. I would like to create a new Wiki award. it would be based upon the Wikifauna, Wikipedia: WikiPrairie Dog. it would consist of a circular medal and a ribbon, with a graphical image of a prairie dog on it. it would be awarded to anyone who exhibits general awareness of our community needs, and does so in a helpful fashion. it might be called "Order of the Burrow," "Order of the Prairie Dog," or "Grand Order of the Society for the WikiPrairie Dog," or something similar.
what do you think? please ping me if you reply. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 13:45, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Indonesia Barnstar
There's a lot of articles related to Indonesia yet it has no barnstar. Maybe a barnstar on Indonesia-related contributions. It could maybe use other name, maybe Satyalancana Nusantara or something. Nyanardsan (talk) 23:55, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Nyanardsan I had originally added the national emblem, but because it was so detail, it was impossible to read the writing on the emblem and distinguish the designs on it when set at the standard barnstar template size of 100px. The barnstar is now based on the Indonesia flag colors only. Jerm (talk) 00:52, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- See Template:The Indonesia Barnstar. Jerm (talk) 01:06, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- How about like this? Nyanardsan (talk) 01:40, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Nyanardsan I'm trying to find the eagle by itself. I did find this though:[1]. Jerm (talk) 01:50, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- I've reupload my image with the eagle onto your file, and placed it in the barnstar template. Jerm (talk) 02:14, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- That looks nice...So, now we need to wait or..? Is there a need to vote for this? Also sorry for asking this, but is there any rule about barnstar naming? Because I'm thinking this one wouldnt be just named "Indonesia Barnstar" if allowed Nyanardsan (talk) 12:07, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
- Nyanardsan I've added them to Wikipedia:WikiProject Indonesia/Templates. There isn't a rule for naming, but I would keep the title closely accurate to the topic the barnstar is covering. What is your proposed name? Jerm (talk) 14:21, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Basketball barnstar!
There’s a barnstar for baseball, which has a similar number of articles, if not less, yet there is not one for WikiProject:Basketball. I propose a barnstar for people who make significant, useful edits/creations of notable articles related to basketball. Saturn Lover! (talk) 18:21, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you User:Jerm, how can we approve it? Saturn Lover! (talk) 08:07, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- Saturn Lover! I've already added it to WP:BARN, but I'll let WikiProject Basketball know they have a barnstar. Jerm (talk) 17:19, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok, thanks an awful lot for helping me create this barnstar.Saturn Lover! (talk) 19:16, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
