ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:31, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IPBE

Do you mind if I answer your emailed question here? --Yamla (talk) 11:18, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yamla, all right. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 14:35, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see no requests from you in UTRS. That presumably means you made your request while not signed in. IPBE cannot be granted to IP addresses, only to accounts. And it sounds like you were making the request from a proxy. I want to be very, very clear, that may not be your fault or even anything you have control over! Proxies are fine on almost all sites, but cause real problems here at Wikipedia because of how they are abused. So, I literally couldn't grant you IPBE at the time you made your request on UTRS. And in order to apply for IPBE, you have to "demonstrate the need" (see WP:IPBE). It certainly looks like you'd qualify, and the email list I redirected you to should be well set up to verify this. I expect the biggest question they'd have is why you are editing via proxies. I mean that entirely neutrally; it's very unusual but there are certainly good reasons why this may be happening. So, please understand that I mean no offense and expect you'll be granted IPBE with only a bit of "hoop jumping". --Yamla (talk) 15:19, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thank you for the explanation. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 15:28, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your email

Hello BlackcurrantTea,

I really appreciate your friendly words but I am a resilient person and do not intend to let a blocked editor affect my editing pattern. I intend to continue contributing as I see fit. Thanks, though. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:26, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to hear it, Cullen328. Resiliency's quite an asset, especially in these times. All the best, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:09, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About Alan B. Miller's Article

Hey BlackcurrantTea, Thanks for Removing Excessive Tags On Alan B. Miller's Page Several Months Ago, But then, some of them Are Excessive Templates, Why it is Still Tagged. When I'm Removed tortoiseAndPigeon's Revision on this Article, Admins Busted Me That Removing Sockpuppets' Revision Is Breaking Wikipedia's Rules, Which is Completely False.

According to Your Statement on June 2, 2020, "This Article showed up in a list of pages with too many maintenance templates, and You noticed that the Dr42 Sockpuppet had added them all with this edit. Please don't do that". I Guess.

The article needs work, You've Been Agreed. However, the idea of tagging is not to apply every possible tag, but the most appropriate tags. For example, This Dr42 Sockpuppet Has added five different tags concerning the article's neutrality (or lack thereof). Only one is necessary to make The Sockpuppet's point; when The Dr42 Sock keep adding more, it's less likely that other editors will recognize a clear problem they might address. As You Can See, This Dr42 Sockpuppet has Been Blocked forever. Anyways, And No, I'm Just far By Talking About Users Has Been Blocked for Being Arbitration Enforcement.

Anyways, WP:OVERTAGGING explains this well. If you have any questions, the Teahouse is a great place to ask, or you can ask me here; I'll keep your talk page on my watchlist for a bit. Thanks!

Also, Defending Sockpuppets of Sockpuppeteers' Revision That Get Them Blocked for 1 Year, That's Why! 2A02:C7F:8C47:7D00:346C:95FA:191D:AE26 (talk) 18:59, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IP, please stop removing maintenance tags from the article. You appear to be edit warring, and I have left a warning on your talk page about this.

Your over-capitalisation and unmarked quotes make your message a bit difficult to understand, but I take it that you're thanking me for removing some templates from the article, claiming that the remaining templates are unjustified because a sockpuppet placed them, and removing them because of this.

This is not the case. When an editor in good standing restores edits originally made by a sockpuppet, the new editor takes responsibility for these edits; the edits themselves should be viewed as having been made by the editor who restored them. Because other editors have restored the templates, you can no longer remove them with the excuse that the templates were placed by a sockpuppet.

If you wish to improve the article in order to resolve the issues noted in the templates, that would be welcome. You may also discuss your objections to them on the article's talk page. But stop removing the templates. Thank you. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 01:24, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

W-League categories

Hi,

I think you may have made an error in removing many players from the category "W-League (Australia) players". I can only assume you have done this because these players are already in categories named "ABC FC (W-League) players". However, "ABC FC (W-League)" is, rightly or wrongly, simply the naming category for W-League teams (e.g., Sydney FC (W-League)). So membership of the "ABC FC (W-League)" category indicates only that the player has signed for that team, and may have represented that team in other competitions than the W-League. It's well established consensus that club player and league player categories are not subategories of one another and I think removing these categories on these basis is therefore the wrong approach. Let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks, Macosal (talk) 22:37, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Macosal. Category:Adelaide United FC (W-League) players‎ and the other individual team player categories are sub-categories of Category:W-League (Australia) players. If someone belongs to Category:Adelaide United FC (W-League) players, that automatically puts her in Category:W-League (Australia) players. It's a bit like the categories for where people come from. If someone is in Category:People from Brisbane, there's no need to add them to Category:People from Queensland; they're already in that category by virtue of being in Category:People from Brisbane.

Category:W-League (Australia) players is a container category, which means it should only contain other categories, not individual pages. It's currently considered a 'polluted category' because it contains the player pages. I was cleaning it up. I hope this clarifies matters. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 23:03, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response, however, I think you have misunderstood.
There are occasions a player may be in Category:Adelaide United FC (W-League) players‎ but not Category:W-League (Australia) players, for example, players contracted to Adelaide United's women's team but who (a) did not make any appearances for the team or (b) appeared for the team only in competitions other than the W-League. Neither category here is a subcategory of the other. This is a well-established arrangement of categories for footballers in various clubs / leagues. (e.g., Category:Sydney FC players and Category:A-League players).
Macosal (talk) 01:55, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Further to the above - I take your point that it is listed as a container category - however, for the reasons outlined above, it should not be one. Macosal (talk) 01:57, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Macosal, that seems a bit odd, but the intricacies of footy contracts aren't one of my stronger areas. You might suggest a change from container category to non-container category at WP:CFD, or discuss it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories. I'll leave the rest of the player pages alone for now. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 10:15, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Discord

Hello again. I was wondering if you would like to join the (unofficial) Wikipedia:Discord. Me and a bunch of other Wikipedians frequently talk there. Plus, there is a dedicated CCI channel there as well where many members chat there including me, Moneytrees and Wizardman. If you're interested in joining, I'd love to see you there! If you prefer not to, that's alright with me :) --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 16:52, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invitation, MrLinkinPark333! It's not a good time right now, but I'll certainly keep it in mind and ask you for all the details if things change. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 21:39, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BlackcurrantTea: No worries! Hope things get better for you :) --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 22:21, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@BlackcurrantTea:, Thank you for your feedback. I am very aware of the 3 revert rule, which is why (as I stated on the talk page, and the undo) I have made my last undo for today. I have asked ApproximateLand to discuss the issues on the talk page, however he simply continues to argue in an agressive manner. NonhumanAnimalAutonomy (talk) 11:19, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
