Welcome to the eleventh edition of the Bugle for 2017!

The regular article news section includes a large number of new FA and A-class articles which covers a diverse set of topics. As something of a rarity these days, one article managed to pass both an A-class review and a FA nomination in October. The book reviews section also features an unusually large and wide-ranging collection of recent external reviews.

TomStar81 has once again contributed a pair of articles to mark the centenary of World War I. His op-ed provides an interesting insight into late-war naval combat on the North Sea, covering a pair of battles. Tom's regular summary of this month 100 years ago includes a very large number of battles and political developments, including the start of the series of Central Power offensives which created one of the main crises of the war.

Awards and honours

• The Wikichevrons with Oak Leaves has been awarded to:
  • Dank in recognition of his long-standing role as a project co-ordinator, and for his content review and copy editing
  • Jackyd101 in recognition of an excellent content creation record, and 241 GAN reviews

• The A-Class medal with Diamonds has been awarded to:
  • Hawkeye7 for Operation Hurricane, Philip Baxter, and Allied logistics in the Kokoda Track campaign

• The A-Class medal with Swords has been awarded to:
  • Nick-D for Operation Inmate, Vultee Vengeance in Australian service, and Boeing CH-47 Chinook in Australian service

Contest department

• The contest department has completed its 124th round of competition in October. A total of 55 articles were submitted by 13 editors. Catlemur took out the competition with 79 points from 16 articles, while Kges1901 came second with 70 points from 13 articles. Catlemur has been awarded the Chevrons for his achievement, and Kges has received the Writer's Barnstar. Auntieruth, AustralianRupert, Djmaschek, Euryalus, Iazyges, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga, LargelyRecyclable, Lord Ics, Parcesboy, Peacemaker67, and TeriEmbrey also contributed entries. Points will go towards the 2017 Military History Writers' Contest Cup, which will be decided at the end of the December contest. Please submit any articles you are working on for the next round of the competition now.
