Welcome to the Interstellar Lounge and Cafe!

More funky Less funky
Sit down, have a cup. While you're here something to muse on:

Think about what an awesome trip you're on,
How many millions of people benefit from Wikipedia every day,
How marvelous it is that people all over the world have collaborated to create this unique resource,
How important sharing knowledge is,
How people working together over time can do amazing things.

Hope that was an inspiring musing :)

Feedback on the game

Helpful feedback tips

Tell us what you liked about it, where we could improve, and what you learned

How you can help
  • Play the game all the way through. Do you get stuck anywhere? Is anything unclear?
  • Finish the game if you only played a few missions: Give some attention to missions 5-7 (which have been tested much less)
  • Start over fresh with a new account: Like User:OcaasiTWA17 (these are legitimate alternate testing accounts and are not considered sockpuppets)
  • Try a different browser: If you used Safari, try Firefox (or Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera...)
  • Show the game to a friend or family member to see how they like it and if they get stuck anywhere
In your feedback, please include any of your thoughts on
  • text instructions within the game
  • graphic placement
  • bugs in the tour mechanics
  • your web browser
  • your screen resolution
  • which step of the tour you were on if something didn't work (see the step= in the url)
  • what you liked
  • what you didn't like
  • what you think would work better
  • your thoughts on the design: the theme, the guide, the characters, the colors, the images, the sounds
known bugs
Bug Stats
  • Fixed: 188!
  • Remaining: 3

Not fixable this version

  • Lingering Dialog Boxes: If you leave the tour without finishing, the guider dialog boxes will follow you until you [x] out of them (this is a Guided Tours issue generally and there's no easy fix) Example
  • Vector Only: If you're using monobook or modern etc., the layout won't work. Almost all new editors will be using Vector, so this is a known, acceptable trade-off
  • Old Internet Explorer: The game is not compatible with older versions of IE. IE8 doesn't work. Try IE9 or even better IE10.
  • Source Editor Only: The game doesn't work with Visual Editor. It could, but it won't be fixed until VE is stable and out of opt-in beta. Example
  • Mobile and Tablet Formatting Fails: While tested for most modern desktop and laptop browsers, the game is not configured to work properly on tablets and other smaller devices. It may, but we'd be getting lucky.
  • Doesn't scale to my preference of window size or scale symmetrically (ctrl 0/-/+). FF 25. (@start)

Fixable (working on these now)

mechanics

  • Reply using edit section links in some places rather than full page edit Example
  • There's no way to jump ahead if you are repeating steps or trying to get back to where you left off mid-mission.
  • If you [x] out of the tour, especially if so you can edit, then there's no way to get back to where you were (see example fix above for a 'skip' option) (should skips go per step, or per chunk?) Example
  • Galactic challenge box has only an [x] and a back button, is it clear you answer the question below? Example
Sorry to cut in, but I didn't realize that "Challenge yourself..." did anything beyond cheer-leading you to continue the game. Thanks for posting this. Wordreader (talk) 01:18, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Back buttons on edit summary steps are being cut off at the bottom, no way to go back to edit instructions.

usability

  • warning, only click buttons that post message once?
  • a way to say 'yes, i've done this already, skip ahead?' (add skip forward button?) Example
  • Restart Repeats: If you replay, a mission, the messages will be resent to you (the tour doesn't 'know' if you've played before). To better retest the game, create a legitimate alternate testing account (e.g. OcaasiTWA17) which is not considered a sockpuppet at all.

content

  • TWA doesn't use/introduce cite templates
  • Should it mention WikiLove? e.g. "When you see someone doing something great, or who looks like they need a lift, try out the [heart icon]"
  • no mention of plagiarism and copy/paste problems
  • no mention of Show Preview
  • too many smileys?

Feedback

The interactive game had some good examples of how to cite and edit pages. It was much to simple for a beginner though

What I liked
Once I got the hang of it the going was smooth.

...The page was never lost. I could always go back to user talk page and click on where I left of in the mission.

What I didn't like
The initial instructions could be more clearly defined

...Nothing really. Just theme was childish.

What I wanted more of
More practice so as to feel more comfortable

...Citing references and also section editing.

What was unnecessary

...more practice with exterior links.

Any other thoughts you want to share

...If it were any easier I wouldn't have learned a thing.

Why a blue rodent with antlers?

The Wikipedia Adventure alien rodent

I like rodents but why is there one in the welcome message? Is this the mascot? Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:04, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is supposed to represent an alien, specifically Will, as the whole theme is an interstellar meeting about finding out about Earth. Kitty 56 (talk) 23:29, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback

What I liked

It teaches you how to use the editor and some of the basic rules you need to know to be an asset to Wikipedia.

What I didn't like

This really doesn't need to be 7 missions. The name "adventure" makes it seem like it's going to be some crazy wild ride through a bunch of portals, where we would learn lots of cool new stuff as we learn to use Wikipedia, but we end up with something fairly underwhelming.

What I wanted more of

Why not just make the course "Wikipedia for beginners" and then quickfire teach people how to use the editor: editing text, using sources, referencing the sources, etc. And then once people know the basics, take them through a bunch of easy portals. Like animals and plants, food, hobbies, etc. Give them experience editing a wide array of topics and then let them loose.

What was unnecessary

The badges :/

Any other thoughts you want to share

The music and the art were cool. The NPCs? were also pretty fun to read. --Singdavion (talk) 20:02, 18 January 2015 (UTC) I liked the badges they kept track of my progress. It took me awhile to understand about the sound recordings. I got confused after Mission 7.Lbhiggin (talk) 00:47, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback

What I liked

... Very simple and easy to follow. A lot to learn and absorb

What I didn't like

... Nothing really. Some of the editing process is not so familiar as with other text editors.

What I wanted more of

... Practice.

What was unnecessary

... Nothing

Any other thoughts you want to share

... I just look forward to becoming part of the community and sharing my well of useless knowledge. ;) --Kaphoen (talk) 09:30, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback

What I liked

Perfectly designed for new-users. It teaches new user the basic techniques in editing and some basic policies and is very user-friendly

What I didn't like

Instructions is a little bit confusing in Mission 1.

What I wanted more of

More complicated staff. These missions are a bit too basic. Many things are left unexplored

What was unnecessary

N/A

Any other thoughts you want to share

The adventure needs more promotion. Many new users will not know the adventure exist unless they were welcomed by that particular template. My suggestion is that the project can send a talk page message to new users, similar to the Teahouse message.

What I liked

...Real time learning made interactive, easy to go back if I missed a point and the page is very much helpful to start with.

What I didn't like

...It is quite good enough.

What I wanted more of

...I wish to have more of an inline reference making process.

What was unnecessary

...For any beginners nothing would go in vain. Everything has put from grassroot level and that is not burden some.

Any other thoughts you want to share

...I am much satisfied. The Adventure part is really helping me to understand things in a creastive and collaborative manner! Thanks Wiki Team.
