Namitha (born Namita Mukesh Vankawala on 10 May 1981 in Surat) is an Indian actress who has appeared in Indian regional movies, such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films.
Career
She first came into the limelight after she was crowned Miss Surat during the year 1998.[1] She went on to participate in the 2001 Miss India pageant and ended up as the fourth runner-up, while Celina Jaitley was crowned Miss India during this event. This publicity opened up doors for her and she did a number of TV commercials like Himani cream & hand soap, Arun Ice Creams, Manikchand Gutka, and Nile herbal shampoo.

She made her acting debut in the Telugu film Sontham directed by Sreenu Vaitla. Subsequent to that, she starred in the Tamil film Aai. In 2006 she made her Bollywood debut in the Hindi film Love Ke Chakkar Mein. Standing 6' tall, she is one of the tallest actresses in Bollywood.[3]
On 26 October 2010, there was an attempt to kidnap her by a fan at Trichy in Tamil Nadu.[4]
On 17 April 2011, she inaugurated the Nungambakkam (Chennai) branch of the sports café Blitzz.[5]
Namitha has been an advocate of safe driving: in June 2012, she and Tamil actor Bharat promoted awareness of safe driving.[6]
There have been false story about her trying to commit suicide[7]
Her most famous role is in the film Thamburatti.
Personal life
Namitha was born in the Gujarati-speaking Ghanchi family in Surat, Gujarat, India on 10 May 1981. She is the only daughter in this family, which consists of her dad, a businessman while her mother is a homemaker. She has a degree in English Literature. She used to teach swimming to young children and was raised in Surat.
She is proficient in Karate, loves to dance, watch movies, swim and play badminton in her spare time and likes to work out. She likes novels, especially by Sidney Sheldon, as well as comic books. She is a promoter of Gadgetguru.[citation needed]
