A Collection is a greatest hits album by Third Eye Blind, released July 18, 2006. The album contains all of their singles (with the exception of "Anything"), a handful of fan and band favorites, as well as three unreleased-via-LP songs: "Tattoo of the Sun", "My Time in Exile" and "Slow Motion" (with lyrics). The package also includes liner notes from renowned rock writer James Hunter and track-by-track commentary from Stephan Jenkins.

A Collection peaked at #103 on the Billboard 200, staying on the chart for three weeks.[2]

Allegations that Third Eye Blind intentionally Changed its History to exclude Kevin Cadogan

Another Third Eye Blind controversy erupted when Stephan Jenkins in his capacity as owner of Third Eye Blind Inc, released a greatest hits album on Rhino records and participated in rewriting the band's history. In 2006 Rhino records sent out a press release to major publications, one of them landing on the desk of Jude Gold who was the associate editor of Guitar Player Magazine. Rhino records was promoting the upcoming release and in doing so sent out erroneous press releases which falsely credited Tony Fredianelli with Kevin Cadpgan's work. Kevin Cadogan was completely omitted from the bands history. [3] The language in the press release was the same as what appeared in the actual liner notes, biography section of the album in which it states: "As always, the band profited from the musical interplay between Tony Fredianelli, Stephan Jenkins, Arion Salazar and Brad Hargreaves". Jude Gold in his review of "A Collection" in Guitar Player Magazine offered the following analogy: "Its like saying Gun's N Roses music always profited from the interplay between Axl Rose and guitarist Bucket Head".[4] Kevin Cadogan, through his MySpace page discussed the situation and stated that he had spoken with a Ms. Khan, the A&R rep at Rhino overseeing the project and that she told him it was too late to stop the presses and that "this sort of thing happens all the time at Rhino". In 2010 via twitter Kevin Cadogan published Eric Godtland's account of the controversy. Eric Godtland who had been the bands manager for over 13 years was fired by Jenkins in 2007 and subsequently the two former friends and colleagues sued each other in SF Superior Court.[5] Gotland alleged to Cadogan that Stephan Jenkins redacted the biography section to exclude Cadogan in an effort to mislead the public into believing that Tony Fredianelli had always been the bands guitarist. Godtland told Cadogan that by excluding him from the band history, the band would become more profitable if promoters and labels could advertise the band as having all original members. In 2011, Fredianelli who in the past had declined to speak about Cadogan's omission from the bands history, decided to speak about on his Facebook page. Stating that he believed the act was "cold blooded" and that Stephan Jenkins and (drummer) Brad Hargreaves took "particular glee" in keeping Cadogan's contributions from the fans.[6]

Rejected options

An acoustic version of the only Third Eye Blind single that didn't make the cut, "Anything", was originally going to be included, but was replaced (most likely due to its short-length and to even the amount of songs from each album) by "Can't Get Away". Remixes of "Losing a Whole Year" and "Graduate" were originally going to be included, as well as a 1995 demo version of "Semi-Charmed Life", but all the original studio recordings were chosen instead (most likely done in order to appeal to a traditional audience rather than fans). The tracklist was also in a different order:[7]

  1. "Semi-Charmed Life"
  2. "Losing A Whole Year"
  3. "How's It Going To Be"
  4. "Jumper"
  5. "Graduate" (Remix)
  6. "Tattoo Of The Sun"
  7. "Never Let You Go"
  8. "Deep Inside Of You"
  9. "Anything" (Acoustic)
  10. "10 Days Late"
  11. "Blinded"
  12. "Crystal Baller"
  13. "My Time In Exile" (Japan Bonus Track)
  14. "God Of Wine"
  15. "Motorcycle Drive By"
  16. "Forget Myself"
  17. "Wounded"
  18. "Palm Reader"
  19. "Slow Motion" (With Lyrics)
