The following is a list of novelettes selected for their critical acclaim or general public popularity. The accepted length of a novelette is 7,500-20,000 words; whereas, a novel is any writing above 40,000 words and the accepted length of a novella is 20,000 to 40,000 words. Short story are usually only 1,000-7,500 words.
