The Kerry Senior Hurling Championship is a hurling competition played between different Gaelic Athletic Association clubs in Kerry, Ireland. The competition is organized by the Kerry GAA county board. The majority of the teams competing come from a group of parishes in the north of the county. The most successful clubs have been Ballyduff and Kilmoyley. The winners qualify to take part in the Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship, and if successful there, can represent Munster in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship. The winners used to compete in the Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship but having met little success, it was felt that they could compete better at the intermediate grade.
The first ever County Senior Hurling Championship was played for in 1889. Five teams participated - Abbeydorney, Ballyduff, Kenmare, Kilgarvan and Kilmoyley.
In the very first game on March 10, Abbeydorney defeated Ballyduff on a scoreline of 1-1 to 0-1. Kenmare became the first holders of the championship when they defeated Kilmoyley 1-0 to 0-1. (A goal outweighed any number of points at the time). Each team was made up of twenty one players a side.
