Carus Thompson

Carus Thompson is the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter of the Australian reggae band Carus and The True Believers.

Life

Carus was born in Fremantle, Australia in 1976. He developed a taste for music at a young age and began playing musical instruments at 12 years of age. By the time he turned 18 Carus was making a living out of performing and so he began the band, Carus and The True Believers.

Music

Carus describes his music as being a mix of roots, folk, reggae and funk, though in a recent interview pointed out he would like his music to be known mainly as "Australian." Carus' main musical influence comes from similar Australian reggae musicians such as Paul Kelly.

He tours extensively throughout Australia and Europe both as a solo artist and with his band the True Believers.

His first album Acoustic at the Norfolk was alive recording made at the Norfolk Hotel in Fremantle, Australia. This double album features Carus either solo or accompanied by longtime collaborators Dave Johnson (harmonies, mandolin) and Adam Gare (violin). It was recorded by engineer James Hewgill (The Waifs) and released in 2003. This was fdollowed by his debut album, Songs from Martin St. In 2004 together with his band, the True Believers released their first album, Long Nights Are Gone. Three Boxes was the band's second album, released in 2007. Carus' second solo studio album, Creature of Habit was released in 2009.
