Born and bred in Memphis, Tennessee, Christopher Gohlston who goes by the pseudonym Drumma Boy was exposed to musicianship at a young age. His mother was a professional opera singer and his father, a professional clarinetist and music professor at the University of Memphis, was the first African-American male to hold the 1st chair position in the National Symphony Orchestra, where he is still an active member.^[1] Throughout his tenure as a junior high and high school student, Drumma Boy participated in the band although as he got older he wanted to play more urban music and less classical.

Today

Now at 25 years old Drumma Boy merges his musical influences ranging from German composers Ludwig van Beethoven and Johann Sebastian Bach to Jazz icons Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis all the way to Academy Award winning Three 6 Mafia and Scarface, combining classical chords with urban street sounds to create his rhythms.

He attended the University of Memphis as a Music Business Major. In between attending classes, the 18 year-old shopped his homemade beats to Memphis rappers such as Gangsta Boo and Tela, as well as traveling to Texas to work on projects for Scarface and the late Pimp C of UGK. In 2003, Drumma Boy founded Drum Squad, an umbrella company that encompasses Drum Squad Productions which represents producers and songwriters, as well as Drum Squad Records.

Following in the footsteps of Memphis native producer Jazze Pha (Ciara, Nelly, Ludacris, T.I.), Drumma Boy relocated to Atlanta in 2004 after having worked with many major names and independent artists in his hometown. Drumma Boy soon fostered relationships with songwriters, instrumentalists and producers such as Jazze Pha, Bryan Michael-Coxand Johnta Austin.

He cites producers Quincy Jones, Raphael Saadiq & The Funk Brothers as his inspirations, and has received production credits on albums featuring Young Jeezy, T.I., Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, Nelly, Gorilla Zoe, Ludacris, Plies, Yung Joc, Rick Ross, E-40, Rocko, Paul Wall and Lil' Jon.

Award Winning

In July 2008 the Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee gave Drumma Boy a Key to the City. In August 2008 he was nominated for "Producer of the Year" at the Ozone Awards in Houston, Texas.^[2] Drumma Boy is currently in the studio with artists including Monica, Brandy, Keyshia Cole, Mary J Blige, Akon, Raheem Devaughn, T-Pain, Rich Boy, Lupe Fiasco, Travis Barker, Plies, Dionne Farris, Jagged Edge and Ludacris.^[3]
