*About Venezuela. I oppose the shut down, but I must admit, that headline is very biased. How about: "The Venezuelan government forces the private television network Radio Caracas Television to shut down, by denying a renewal of its broadcasting license and replacing the station with the state-sponsored channel TVes."--enano (Talk) 00:21, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Errors in In the news

 • A.C. Milan win ... ? A.C. Milan wins ... ?

Perhaps we should use gerunds or passive voice to avoid this singular vs plural problem that we keep getting with sports news on ITN. --199.71.174.100 22:28, 23 May 2007 (UTC) A.C. Milan won would work as well Spartyboy40 21:44, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should be always in present tense so your gerund suggestion might do the trick. --Howard the Duck 12:53, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"their Progressive Democrat coalition partners collapse." This made me smile. You mean they all fainted or something? Please change to something like "saw their vote collapse"? Willy turner 07:48, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would become rather long if someone was to do that, I think that is the reason it is slightly clumsy to start with. J Milburn 09:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in Did you know?

I do not believe that "combated" is a word. I suggest "fought". Cardamon 03:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out that it is a word. Cardamon 03:33, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

::Yes, who knew indeed?! I learn something new every day in Wikipedia :) 'Combated' --Eqdoktor 07:18, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"the Polish air force combated in the victory of Lublin-Brest Offensive"? Please change to either "the Polish air force saw combat in the victory of Lublin-Brest Offensive", or "the Polish air force took part in the victory of Lublin-Brest Offensive" Willy turner 07:44, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree - that reads a lot better than "combated". Combated may be a word but its very clumsy in that sentence. --Eqdoktor 08:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
'Combated' sounds far better than 'saw combat', and 'took part' doesn't sound nearly as interesting. I think 'combated' is the best word for this fact. J Milburn 09:20, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt the bread in the photo is pumpernickel. The texture is too light, the bread has a somewhat rounded, defined crust. This is uncharacteristic of pumpernickel. It appears to be another type of dark rye bread. Edwin s 09:35, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
