Should nominations for Best Foreign Language Film/Best International Feature remain included in the total nomination and win tallies for filmmakers, specifically the film's director? The director accepts the award and since 2014 their name is engraved on the award along with the submitting country but the country is credited as the nominee and the Oscar is awarded to the film. In my opinion, I think they should be included in the director's win and nomination tally as they are credited explicitly on the statuette and implicitly as the acceptor of the award. In addition, including these nominations and wins in this section's tallies I think more fully reflects the Academy's recognition of non-American filmmakers. That's my opinion but I think it is a topic worth discussing. [[User:Panopticanyounot|Panopticanyounot]] ([[User talk:Panopticanyounot|talk]]) 18:33, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Roosevelt hotel

Your information is not really a Your information is not really accurate. The Awards weren't born at the Roosevelt but a little bit further towards the walk of Fame. Although I've been there (it's a bar now) I don't remember it's current name, that's were the first ceremonies were held. It's a tiny place.

This was told to me by the director of the Roosevelt as he gave me a private tour of (among other things) the "Oscar Room". 2A02:1210:624A:3400:28B6:1D53:74C7:2C3F (talk) 11:24, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Term "Oscar" Appeared in 1933

Someone should tell Wikipedia that a Brazilian film scholar has documented a December 5, 1933 occurrence of the term "Oscar."

The First Ceremony was in 1929

This article states that the "1st Academy Awards were held in 1929." However, in the Naming section, it states that "Margaret Herrick, librarian and president of the Academy, may have said she named it [the statuette] after her supposed uncle Oscar in 1921." How could she name the statuette if the Oscars didn't yet exist?
