The default type of this infobox should be "County" and not "U.S. county". The reason is that this infobox automatically adds the short description . However, editors clearly dislike the auto-generated description and override it with (examples: 1, 2, 3). Can we change the default so this no longer has to be manually overridden everywhere? Thrakkx (talk) 16:23, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

:This seems reasonable. I have removed "U.S." from the default value of settlement_type for the above reason and because it seems redundant. There are many other indications in this infobox that the place is in the United States, including "Location within the U.S. state of ...", "[state]'s location within the U.S.", and a prominent U.S. flag. Removing "U.S." from the type also matches the default type value in infoboxes like Infobox Italian comune and others. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:32, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

I know that there are limitations with Visual Editor and templates but I've started to notice it acting weird on a few specifically. If you edit Template:Infobox U.S. county, it doesn't create a new line for each new parameter added. Coord template specified to have "title" display parameter only?

Greetings and felicitations. As it now stands, the template's coordinates field is specified to only use "title":

This parameter is used to place geographic coordinates in the upper right corner of the page (outside the infobox) via the coord template.

I found Template_talk:Infobox_U.S._county/Archive_2#Coordinates and Template_talk:Infobox_U.S._county/Archive_2#_Coordinates_values?, one of which also points to "Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. counties: Coordinates", but none of these directly address the why of the specification. Anyone? —DocWatson42 (talk) 03:50, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request

Can someone please change all occurrences of "United States Census, YEAR" to "YEAR United States census"? I.e. year first and lower-case "census". Thank you. HandsomeFella (talk) 13:33, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done I think I got them all. For future reference, this move discussion appears to have resulted in moving all of the articles to a consistent name. If I did not find all of the links, please link to a page where the old naming convention still exists and reactivate this edit request. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:13, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

County flower

I found reference to the county flower of Mills County, Texas. Can county flower, along with accommodation for an image, be be added to the infobox? Sillyputty1967 (talk) 20:03, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Default type being "U.S. county"

The default type of this infobox should be "County" and not "U.S. county". The reason is that this infobox automatically adds the short description <type> in <state>, United States. However, editors clearly dislike the auto-generated description and override it with County in <state>, United States (examples: 1, 2, 3). Can we change the default so this no longer has to be manually overridden everywhere? Thrakkx (talk) 16:23, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This seems reasonable. I have removed "U.S." from the default value of |settlement_type= for the above reason and because it seems redundant. There are many other indications in this infobox that the place is in the United States, including "Location within the U.S. state of ...", "[state]'s location within the U.S.", and a prominent U.S. flag. Removing "U.S." from the type also matches the default type value in infoboxes like Infobox Italian comune and others. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:32, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
