Snapdragon 808 notable features over its predecessor (805): CPU features ARMv8-A 64-bit architecture (with Global Task Scheduling)

Yet the phone kernel and apps run in 32-bit mode.

Is this by design, or have I been ripped off? Or is AIDA64 showing false specs?
