Is abjad an acronym?

In the section on the earliest used in English, abjad (meaning the Arabic alphabet) is cited as the earliest in the OED. But is it really an acronym? It seems to me that it falls into the same category of words (whatever category that is) as alphabet and futhark. The first of those has already been removed as an example.
