I have written and substantially many Wikipedia pages, typically about historical figures and contemporaries who stand out in my profession. Most recently (last fall) I submitted an article on Barry N. Haack, a recently retired professor who is a pioneer in the field of remote sensing. The draft article was immediately critiqued for lack of references (although there were many). Many more were added, and the article we resubmitted nearly five months ago. So far, no editor has looked at it. How do I call it to the attention of editors now that it has been revised? |

I may have messed up a big companies Wiki page
Hi,
So I kinda messed up Netflix's Wiki page. I was trying to put its position in the Fortune 500 list and the whole page below is in a graph. Don't know what to do. Sorry for messing when I hadn't read any of your advisory pages.
Could someone fix it cause people will use it and see the bad state its in?
Sorry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.25.244.216 (talk) 00:18, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

What kind of books can we create in Wikipedia?
Hello I am asking if I can post a book about natural disaster facts and how they form My question is that is it okay to post books like this using the Create a book function Is it okay with Wikipedia? I would never break the rulesScienceGirl-2011 (talk) 05:26, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @ScienceGirl-2011: The "create book" feature lets you produce a printable book from a selection of Wikipedia articles, and yes, you may use it. However, it seems that you wish to write a new book, with original content that is not in our articles. You can do that at our sister project Wikibooks, which is here. From that book, you can link to articles in Wikipedia and you can use images from commons, or even add images to commons to put in you book. -Arch dude (talk) 05:36, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

How do i get a copy of our most rececnt version of the article that was deleted??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex Dee (talk • contribs) 05:55, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Alex Dee: You could try Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion, since it was a PROD. However, since the page was deleted for failing the notability guideline, you still need to find secondary, independent sources to demonstrate notability (see WP:NORG). Otherwise, it's likely to be deleted again. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 06:14, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Are Tumbler Aesthetics notable?
I recently found this page, Dark_academia, which is about a tumblr aesthetic... I feel that the content is trivial and shouldn't be part of wikipedia, but I'm pretty new to editing. I was thinking of nominating it for deletion as non-notable but I found that there is a new york times article about it. What do y'all think? Mcscope (talk) 07:44, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- I think it's notable enough to stay, since it has significant coverage from independent sources. Findanegg (talk) 14:45, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Mcscope: "Trivial" is your personal value judgement, and I personally agree with you. But Wikipedia's sole inclusion criterion is notability (WP:N), so our value judgements do not enter into this decision. Our notability criteria are as objective as possible. Wikipedia's goal is to have an article on every notable subject. If I were the "triviality" czar, I would delete more than half the sports-related articles, perhaps 75% of the entertainment-related articles, and maybe 90% of the video game articles, but that's not how we operate. The Dark academia article is much better sourced, to much "higher quality" sources, than many of our articles. It's not what you or I think, it's what gets published in the New York Times. -Arch dude (talk) 16:05, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- The article My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fandom exists. Unfortunately, WP:IDONTLIKEIT is not a valid reason for deletion. As noted above, if a topic is notable, and has sources to back it up, it does not matter how trivial it seems to the average reader; this topic has been discussed in the NYT and other RS. I will however, note, that about half of the article was original research and has been culled. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 16:27, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @El cid, el campeador: The cleanup you did on that article resolved my concerns actually. That was cool to see! That's a good lesson for me that notability is separate from article quality and perhaps I was responding to the latter. Thanks all for your feedback! Mcscope (talk) 22:20, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

"Historical most first-day album streams" Is Not Up to date!
Hi, I found the record for "Historical most first-day album streams" is not the up to date record as of today (25 January 2021). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-streamed_songs_on_Spotify#Historical_most_first-day_album_streams
for the record, Drake's album is still maintain at No. 1 (https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/428850-most-day-one-streams-of-an-album-on-spotify) but No. 2 is achieved by Taylor Swift's folklore which was released on 2020, Guinness World Records also marked her album as the "Most day-one streams of an album on Spotify (female)", here is the proof: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/625191-most-day-one-streams-of-an-album-on-spotify-female
I found the editor for this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-streamed_songs_on_Spotify#Historical_most_first-day_album_streams is purposely to not update this particular of record only since I checked all the records from this page was up to date until January 2021. This editor is trying to misleading the wrong information to the readers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.188.211.76 (talk) 08:00, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- As per WP:FAITH, please don't accuse other Wikipedians of intentional bad-faith editing. Looking at the page history, it seems your edit was reverted due to not citing enough sources. If you can find and cite enough secondary sources to back your claim, you may include those in a revised version of your list. Findanegg (talk) 14:51, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- You can also post your suggestion on the article talk page - Talk:List of most-streamed songs on Spotify - and hopefully others interested in the same topic can help you find more sources. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:12, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Coordinates for 1854 Broad Street cholera outbreak
Hi all, I've been editting the article 1854 Broad Street cholera outbreak and noticed the coordinates were wrong. I've re-done them, as they need to centre on a specific location (e.g. the pump mentioned in the article), however the coordinate function wasn't picking up the right place, so I used the location instead. This has, though, removed the coordinates from being display at the topic of the page.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the right wiki coordinates that are linked in the article? Jamzze (talk) 11:20, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Jamzze: I've fixed the coordinates with this edit. Your first attempt to emend the coordinates threw up an error message because you were entering the numerical values of decimal coordinates in the format used for degrees-minutes-seconds coordinates, which resulted in an impossible value (greater than 59.999 ...) for seconds of longitude. Deor (talk) 17:09, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you so much! That is good to know for the future Jamzze (talk) 18:03, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
My first wikipedia entry
Hi there
Is it better to do a wikipedia entry in full first i.e. I will be doing one for a playwright / poet?
How long does it approximately take for a new edit to appear on Wikipedia?
Thanks

- TidalJ Edits to existing articles in most cases appear immediately. If you want to create a new article, be advised that doing so is the absolute hardest task to perform on Wikipedia. I would suggest using the new user tutorial and reading User:Giraffer/TFNUTD first. You may then use Articles for creation to create and submit a draft for review by another editor. Draft are visible to the public only if they know exactly where it is or see it in Recent Changes and search engines cannot search drafts. 331dot (talk) 11:45, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- If you can't immediately think of useful things to do, take a look at the essay here with examples of how you could contribute. Like any other activity, practise will help you build experience before you try to create a draft article from scratch. Note that on Talk Pages, you should sign/date your contribution, which happens automatically if you type four tildes, as ~~~~ Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:05, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- TidalJ To answer your original question: I find it better to write an article incrementally instead of all at once. Among other reasons, You end up saving your work frequently as part of the incremental process. You should start your new article as a draft, in "draft space"(i.e. start an article on "Harvey Schmedlap" as "Draft:Harvey Schmedlap"). But, the very first step MUST be to pick a subject that is notable by our definition (WP:N). Notability is the only absolute requirement for an article. The most perfectly written article on a non-notable subject will be deleted. We can help you improve even a very poorly-written draft on a notable subject, but we cannot help help you improve notability. see WP:AMOUNT. -Arch dude (talk) 16:07, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Article title on Good Job! (game) in italics for me, but not everyone?
Hi,
Looking at the formerly featured article on Good Job!, I see the article title as in italics. Fellow editor Panini on the talk page says he/she does not. Page source shows italic tags. The wiki markup for Title does not have double-apostrophes. I checked in the current versions of Firefox and Chromium, and both show the page title as italicized for me. Bug? Any suggestions about what's up? IAmNitpicking (talk) 15:22, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

- Yes, it shows italics as it should. Panini probably meant they didn't see the font in [1] with an odd 'J'. I guess they do see italics. @IAmNitpicking: Maybe your browser chooses that font because it cannot display italics for the font used in page headings. A question about Wikipedia:No Nazis
In the essay Wikipedia:NONAZIS it says that so called "Racists" are usually blocked on-site. Can you be blocked from editing Wikipedia for expressing certain political opinions, and if so, what are they? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1702:A0:4140:A16B:A53F:938E:8EA5 (talk) 19:23, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- If by "political opinions" you mean something like stating "All {X ethnic/religious/whatever group} should be killed," then, yes, you can absolutely be blocked or banned for that. If by "political opinions" you mean "I think vaccines are evil," then no, you can't be blocked or banned for simply holding that opinion. If you edit in a disruptive manner in order to try to push your opinion into articles, you will be blocked for that behavior. Note that both types of hypothetical blocks are based on behavior, not beliefs. I hope that helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 20:08, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- Nazism isn't an opinion. Just like believing in fundamental human rights are not an opinion. An opinion is "I don't like the color blue." Nazism is a violent ideology that is inherently incompatible with editing Wikipedia because it 1.) denies facts and 2.) endangers the lives of people. No one is going to block you for saying "You know what, I like that Boris Johnson guy." CUPIDICAE💕 20:13, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- Praxidicae "I don't like the color blue" is not an opinion; it's a statement of fact--"I don't like it." Fact: John doesn't like blue; fact: Mary loves blue. (Opinion: Blue is the most beautiful color; opinion: Blue is ugly.) As for Nazism not being an opinion, what you seem to be saying is if an idea seems so fundamentally unarguable (at least to some people--you?) that everybody ought to agree with it, then it ceases to be an opinion. That's a rather dangerous notion (opinion? well, not quite) itself. I happen to be of the opinion that both fascism and communism are evil--for pretty much the same reasons. In the 1950s, the big thing was going after communists; nowadays, that's seen as an embarrassing chapter in American history--even as we identify anybody to the right of center as "Nazis" (or at least "fascists") and go after them in the same say.
- As for endangering people, there have been many ideas, ideologies and belief systems--both good and evil--that have, at least indirectly, cost people their lives. Nazism, Christianity! People have died for embracing or refusing to embrace both. If we consider ideas that are directly ABOUT taking lives, then I have to consider a very modern--supposedly progressive--idea (allegedly about "human rights"). Embracing this idea without question is widely considered a minimum requirement for being taken seriously; questioning it is, by itself, an utter disqualification from many things. And this very "progressive" idea involves--no, IS ABOUT--not merely endangering, but taking the lives of innocent people (those who happen to be young enough, and thus dependent and helpless enough). Uporządnicki (talk) 15:00, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- That's quite the level of mental gymnastics you've done while still missing the point. CUPIDICAE💕 15:03, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- AzseicsoK, "I think people should be systematically discriminated and maybe murdered because of their religion, ethnicity and sexual orientation" is not remotely similar to "I don't like blue" and neither is it an "opinion". Openly embracing such a position, dogwhistling about such a position, pushing such a position is actively denying the humanity of people and essentially a form of violence. We do not have to indulge such ideas, we do not have to debate them, we do not have to give them a platform. I for one will not be doing anyone holding such a position a platform to act like they are debatable ideas. Every community sets limits in its discourse: We are not a state, and this is not a free speech issue. We are a community that should be taking a stance at some point. This isn't McCarthyism, it's self-regulation. I'm not American, I don't identify as a "progressive", and neither of those things are relevant to this conversation. NONAZIS doesn't say "go on a which-hunt for right-of-centre editors", it just explains a fundamental truth: Someone who espouses far-right ideology and racism is neither compatible with a collaborative environment, nor open to reason and science; otherwise they wouldn't be espousing those positions in the first place. Opposing far-right ideology isn't merely a political act, it's an act of reason. Blablubbs|talk 15:32, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

- @Phyllis Dingbat: Just to clarify, you did the right thing in noting that it's incorrect; don't worry too much about rules if you're new. Like what Tenryuu said though, normally you put comments on the talk page of the article (if you look at the top next to the "Article" tab there's a "Talk" tab that you can edit in), or add a template to the article itself. If you think you can fix the actual article though, then be bold and remove the erroneous statement or change it, and give justification in the edit summary. I like to leave a comment in the talk page too if I think it might be controversial. Hope that helps. Cheers, Fredlesaltique (talk) 01:05, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Force font for special characters?
Hi, I recently created Stick figure#Unicode (Had some trouble creating the table, but got there in the end).
It has special characters, the only font I know to have them is OpenMoji (OpenMoji), there are also combining character sequences that that font supports.
I was wondering if there is a way to suggest to the browser to use that font if it is installed. At current it displays tofu, even though I have the font installed.
I was thinking of <span style="font-family:'OpenMoji Color';">🯆👗</span>
(this works, I tested it).
However that would mean the font is forced with no fallback, meaning that if they don't have OpenMoji, but do have a different font that supports it (or the default fonts get updated to inclide it), they would see tofu.

Citing page numbers from Google Books
Hello, I'm wondering if there's a way to find page numbers from Google Books when they don't appear in the copy of the book Google shows. Recently I created the article Malcolm Fairley, and I've found quite a useful source from Google Books that I'd like to cite (here), but their copy doesn't appear to display any page numbers. I was going to use Harvard citation but that requires me to input a page number for it to work properly. So, is there any way to get the page numbers without buying a physical copy of the book, or will it be a case of just citing it as a cite book in the text itself? Thanks in advance, This is Paul (talk) 18:48, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
- @This is Paul: You could try asking on the talk page of a relevant wikiproject whether any editor there has the book. WorldCat can tell you which libraries hold the book. There is also Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange, which I haven't tried myself. TSventon (talk) 20:57, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
- ok cheers, I've got it to work without the page numbers, but adding them would improve the look of the article so I'll ask if anyone has a copy. This is Paul (talk) 21:04, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Contradictory data about river Derwent, Derbyshire.
Hello everybody, the page River Derwent, Derbyshire says in the first lines that it is 106 km long, while in the template it says 80 km long. The latter should be the right length, it is given as "about 50 miles long" in the Derbyshire Rivers web site. May I correct the page myself or somebody else should make the correction? Thank you, --Gab.pr (talk) 20:53, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Gab.pr: welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for spotting a possible error. You may fix it yourself, but don't assume 50 miles is correct. Later in the article it says that it's meandering course adds 16 miles to its length (which corresponds to the 66 miles in the lede. If possible, check the cited references to see what the sources say. RudolfRed (talk) 21:11, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
- Gab.pr, adding on to RudolfRed's response, you may want to bring this up at the article's talk page to raise your concerns before making any changes so that regular editors (if any) can help clarify the discrepancy. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:36, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- It's complicated, as there are differing way of measuring, but there is already a partial explanation on the article talk page from eight years ago. Maybe that information could be incorporated into the article, but as Tenryuu says, that would be the best place to further discuss this.--Shantavira|feed me 10:25, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

New Patrolled articles on daily basis
Hi,
I need some guidance for the use of Wiki. Is there any way in Wiki where I can see patrolled topics on daily basis. For example: Patrolled & Approved Topics of today.
Thanks & Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8003:AC76:200:B0C9:1A72:1AEE:9FF1 (talk) 00:29, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm not exactly sure what you mean. There are a variety of "patrols" at Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Patrols for an overview. For example, we have a page at Special:RecentChanges where you can see edits being made as soon as they happen across the encyclopedia, which is useful in helping out with reverting vandalism soon after it happens; the patrol description page is as Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol. By the way, this site is called Wikipedia, not wiki. A wiki is any website using wiki software; there are thousands of them.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:44, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

edit to page Jim McGinty
Hello
Today I made a factual contribution to the Wikipedia page "Jim McGinty" ( [1] )
Extended content

---|
I added the following text " partly responsible for the OATHS, AFFIDAVITS AND STATUTORY DECLARATIONS ACT 2005 (GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, WA 23 December 2005 page 6244 ), which effectively changed the OATH and AFFIRMATION to remove the monarch and replace it with Legislative Council/Legislative Assembly. Despite the fact "REMOVING the MONARCH" is an act of blatant TREASON he was somehow recognised as a reformer " . Removal of the monarch is an act of war against the Commonwealth . Criminal Code Act 1995 Subdivision B—Treason 80.1 Treason (1) A person commits an offence if the person: (d) levies war, or does any act preparatory to levying war, against the Commonwealth; Penalty: Imprisonment for life. (2) A person commits an offence if the person: (a) receives or assists another person who, to his or her knowledge, has committed an offence against this Subdivision (other than this subsection) with the intention of allowing him or her to escape punishment or apprehension; or (b) knowing that another person intends to commit an offence against this Subdivision (other than this subsection), does not inform a constable of it within a reasonable time or use other reasonable endeavours to prevent the commission of the offence. Penalty: Imprisonment for life.
4.Oaths, general form of (1)If under this Act or any other law or the exercise of the Royal Prerogative a person has to take an oath, the form of the oath is to begin with one of the following, according to the person’s preference — (a)I swear by Almighty God…; (b)I swear by [name of a deity recognised by his or her religion]…; (c)I swear, according to the religion and the beliefs I profess, … . (2)The fact that at the time of taking an oath a person has no religious belief does not affect the validity of the oath. (3)Despite subsection (1) a person who has to take an oath may take an oath in any form or manner that he or she wants if the person before whom he or she is to take the oath is satisfied that — (a)the oath will bind the person’s conscience; and (b)the person understands the consequences of taking an oath. (4)An oath taken under subsection (3) has the same force and effect as an oath taken under subsection (1). 5.Affirmation may be made instead of oath (1)If under this Act or any other law or the exercise of the Royal Prerogative a person has to or may take an oath, the person is entitled to affirm instead. (2)If under this Act or any other law or the exercise of the Royal Prerogative a person has to take an oath and — (a)the person says that the taking of an oath is contrary to his or her religious belief or conscience; or (b)it is not reasonably practicable, without inconvenience or delay, at the time when and place where the oath has to be taken, to administer to the person an oath in a manner and form that will bind the person’s conscience; or (c)for any other sufficient reason the taking of an oath is found not to be appropriate, the person may be required to affirm instead. (3)An affirmation made instead of an oath has the same force and effect as the oath. (4)The form of the affirmation is as follows — I sincerely declare and affirm ... , which words replace those set out in section 4(1) as the beginning of any oath. as a result of this act the oath and affirmation contained in Constitution Act 1889 ( Western Australia Constitution ) was altered on 1 Jan 2006 to remove the monarch and replace the monarch with "Legislative Council/Legislative Assembly". this is treason ! [5] ( constitution with monarch contained in schedule E [Section 22] ) [6] ( constitution with Legislative Council/Legislative Assembly contained in schedule E [Section 22] ) In Australia a Constitution of the state must be consistent with the commonwealth constitution . http://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/coaca430/s106.html COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA CONSTITUTION ACT - SECT 106 Saving of Constitutions The Constitution of each State of the Commonwealth shall, subject to this Constitution, continue as at the establishment of the Commonwealth, or as at the admission or establishment of the State, as the case may be, until altered in accordance with the Constitution of the State. - Lucas76520 The French Wikipedia is separate from the English Wikipedia. As far as the English Wikipedia is concerned, you are a new user and cannot directly create articles until your account is four days old here, with 10 edits or more. Even if you get there, unless you are very familiar with our policies (which may be different from the French Wikipedia) a review is a good idea. 331dot (talk) 10:47, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much, it's clear and I understand it's normal. When the review will be done, the article will be online even if my 4 days aren't spent ? Are you able to make my review please ? This work is a little bit urgent... Thanks again Lucas76520 (talk) 11:33, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Lucas76520: Why is it so urgent? Wikipedia doesn't operate on deadlines. However, yes, when the draft is reviewed (and doesn't contain some sort of rule violation that keeps it from getting promoted to article, like the verifyability requirement, it is going to be promoted to an article, no matter if you are online or not. Victor Schmidt (talk) 12:43, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Lost access to account - how do I remove it
Hello! I used to be User:TheFanoulis on both the Greek and English Wikipedia sites, but now I want to retire the accounts. However, I have lost access to the email I used to register those accounts. How can I proceed with reclaiming them? --46.198.242.37 (talk) 11:21, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- Do you want to retire, or reclaim the accounts? If you wish to retire, you can just ignore them. There is no way to delete accounts. If you wish to reclaim them, you'll need to remember the password, as there isn't an additional way to recover the password than by the associated email. - The article is "semi-protected" to prevent vandalism (see WP:SEMI). That just prevents editing from IP addresses, which is not relevant as you have created an account. You'll be able to edit the article directly after your account is > 4 days old and you have made > 10 other edits (which in any case will assist you to learn about editing here, which can be a steep learning curve). Note that the advice about supplying reliable sources still applies — and edit summaries explaining what you are doing in an area of potential controversy will help, Cassandra74f32. Please "sign" any contributions on Talk Pages with 4 tildes, ~~~~ which also adds a datestamp. There is a bot that can do that sometimes (see above here) but doing so yourself is part of the etiquette. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:53, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Cassandra74f32: You are in the mobile version of the site where it's difficult to find the talk page. It's at Talk:Transgender. It's easier to post an edit request if you switch to the desktop version by clicking "Desktop" at the bottom of a page. Then you can click the "View source" tab at top of a protected page to get a button to submit an edit request. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:06, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Is there a template to mention a current discussion that isn’t an Rfc
So I know that Rfc’s and Afd’s have a template that is used to let editors know there is a discussion taking place. Those templates are placed on the article page and the talk page. If there is a discussion taking place on the article’s talk page that isn’t and Rfc or Afd, is there a template a person can use that can be placed on the top of the article (not the talk page) to alert editors to that discussion? - @Artsy Koala: The only absolute requirement for a Wikipedia article is that the subject must be notable by our definition: see WP:N. Therefore, start by determining that your subject is notable before you put any effort into actually writing the article. An otherwise-perfect article about a non-notable subject will be deleted. We delete about 200 articles every day. If your subject is notable, we can help you even if your first attempt is very poor, but we cannot help you with notability. - Note also that if you are looking to register an account to create the page, per Wikipedia's username policy, the account must represent a single individual person, not a group or other abstract entity. And furthermore, even for single-person accounts, the account must represent a fixed physical person, not a role. For example, "User:ExamplePlace school" or "User:Teacher of class 2B" are forbidden, but "User:Jeannette Mysurname" is allowed. JIP | Talk 16:02, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Also, see WP:COI and WP:PAID - if you are an employee of the school, you are recommended to not create a page on the topic. You also have to make sure that the institution is notable by Wikipedia's standards; you will also need to create a Wikipedia account to create a new article. Shared accounts are not allowed, so it will have to be your own independent account. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 16:04, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

- Hello, Jeannette. I suspect that, like many people, you are making the mistake of thinking that Wikipedia is a place to tell the world about yourself. It is not. If Wikipedia at some time has an article about your school, it will not belong to the school, the school will have no control over it, and it will not necessarily say what the school would like it to say. Have a look at an article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing before you go any further. --ColinFine (talk) 16:17, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Okamoto Keito
In the article of the AADA (American Academy of Dramatic Arts) Keito Okamoto is listed as one of the alumnis in 2020, however they have neither been any announcements regarding that nor has the article regarding himself been updated.
So what is true now? Is he still studying at the AADA because studies have been prolonged due to Covid-19 or did he really had finished the two year program? It would be best to confirm that information, since he was supposed to return to Japan in 2020.
Here are the two links regarding the articles:

- It's possible the article is in error. When in doubt, check the source. Everything in Wikipedia should be verifiable, meaning you can check an outside source to verify a statement and see where the information came from—Wikipedia isn't a primary source itself. In this case, it doesn't look like there is a citation for that fact, so I went ahead and added a "citation needed" tag.
- If you ever want to fix something like that yourself, you can always add a citation tag by clicking "edit source" at the top and typing {{citation needed}} after the relevant fact. Or you can add a note in the talk page for that article, or even remove the uncited info. Thanks for posting. Cheers, Fredlesaltique (talk) 01:12, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help! I already made some research on my own and was not able to verify that, so I was very surprised seeing Okamoto's name on the list. For now the issue is fixed. - 2021 in film is a popular article. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2021_in_film&action=info says 77 watchers, and 203,809 views in the last 30 days. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:20, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Can you be banned if you don't submit a profile in time?
Hello, A wiki expert has said Wikipedia is threatening to ban a company for 5 years if they don't submit their profile ASAP. Is this real or a scare tactic so the expert doesn't have to refund for work not done?----Snazzy-d67 (talk) 12:26, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia does not have "profiles", it has articles. People who purport to be "wiki experts" likely have no official standing and cannot ban anyone from Wikipedia. It sounds to me like this company is being scammed by the "expert" and if I were them I would not hand over a penny. 331dot (talk) 10:25, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia includes articles on subjects deemed to be notable by Wikipedia's own standards - the subject itself is not asked for any input into that whatsoever. These decisions are not time bound as a company (or individual) could become notable at any point (i.e a subject that doesn't need a Wikipedia article today might have a 5,000 word one tomorrow) so that '5 years' claim is some bullshit. This 'expert' is a liar. --Paul ❬talk❭ 11:31, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- Whoever this "wiki expert" is, they are a scammer and are lying to you. Just ignore them. JIP | Talk 13:16, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you all! I suspected it was a scam - glad I checked on here first.--Snazzy-d67 (talk) 15:21, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Page Previews
I've been wondering, how do you change the picture that appears in the page previews and on the results for the Search Bar? Mrspagehttiwe2019 (talk) 11:10, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- Mrspagehttiwe2019 You don't describe your specific situation, but it sounds to me like you are talking about search engine results(like from Google); we have little control over Google search results; you will need to contact Google(or the search engine if different) for assistance. 331dot (talk) 11:12, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- My situation concerns the articles on the Eurovision Song Contest. I find it infuriating that they don't show the logo on an article for a contest of Eurovision preview when hovering over a link to said article. It instead shows a map of all the participating countries in said contest. I think it would be much better for the logo of the contest. The participation map also shows on the results page when searching for the article on the inbuilt Wikipedia search bar at the top of the page. I am not referring to the search bar for the search engine. --Mrspagehttiwe2019 (talk) 11:19, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- After looking around at Wikipedia, I have seen that many of the page previews fail to show pictures in infoboxes. --Mrspagehttiwe2019 (talk) 11:24, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- I understand the situation. It has nothing to do with Google. It's when you hover over a wikilink, the image in the preview isn't the one used in the infobox. This is a technical problem that I think can only be fixed by the developer. Enjoyer — talk 11:41, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- It's not a bug. The software intentionally uses specific images and not ones necessarily in the infobox - pretty sure it picks one of the first four images based on some criteria. I'll see if I can find the page for you. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:44, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- This "criteria" results in some weird preview like the one Mrspagehttiwe2019 mentioned. Even if it's not a bug, it should be improved. Not a big problem, tho. Enjoyer — talk 11:58, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- I am assuming that you are referring to WP:Page Previews of course. I don't think it is covered there how it picks up the image Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:50, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

- For anyone else who was confused for a hot minute, there are images that come up when you search - but only on mobile, as screen-shotted (both browser and app it seems). Pretty similar to page previews but I would image they are different features in practice. It would seem that its looking for the first "image" using only the inline image code so it's skipping things in templates like the infobox. That makes sense to an extent - you wouldn't want it including the padlock from a protection template for instance - but I think I agree that the image in the infobox is probably the best choice in most cases. This is however, an issue with the Wikimedia software so as Enjoyer of World said, it would need to raised as a development ticket and probably take some time to even get accepted - but if you feel strongly about it then I would encourage you to raise it at the technical village pump who might have a better idea of whether it's worth taking further --Paul ❬talk❭ 11:59, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- We have two preview features. The opt-in "Navigation popups" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets shows the logo for Eurovision Song Contest 1998. The question is about the default feature "page previews" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. It shows the page image which is used in several places and is determined by mw:Extension:PageImages#Image choice. I'm not sure why it picks File:ESC 1998 Map.svg for Eurovision Song Contest 1998. It may be because File:ESC 1998 logo.png has a non-free license. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:27, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- From my experience, fair use images are not used in previews. I would assume this is because the fair use license states that the image will only be used on the specific page, not in previews or at other locations. I really think that's the long and short of the answer. Cheers ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 13:24, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

What is the limit for pinging members in ref desk?
Here I pinged about 4 editors to get answer. Is there any limit? Rizosome (talk) 12:02, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Rizosome: The limit is 50 in the same edit. The edit must be signed. The page history shows you added the attempted pings in later edits after signing so none of the editors were actually pinged. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:15, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- I should note, that you probably shouldn't ping 50 users. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:17, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
PrimeHunter now I signed again, will they get notified about pings? Rizosome (talk) 12:21, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Rizosome: 50 is the software limit. It should almost never be used in practice. The user mention has to be added in the same edit as the signature so [4] doesn't work. See more at mw:Manual:Echo. There are unclear rules if you edit existing content. The only safe way is to add a new post with mentions and a signature. At Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo you can enable "Successful mention" and "Failed mention" if you want to know whether your pings work. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:37, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
PrimeHunter I pinged them in the same edit as the signature. Will it work? This Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo confusing because of too many check boxes. Rizosome (talk) 13:43, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Rizosome: Click the circled i's at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo to see more about the option. I don't think [5] will work. As I said: "There are unclear rules if you edit existing content. The only safe way is to add a new post with mentions and a signature." PrimeHunter (talk) 13:55, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Dear editors,
The English company page of Nokian Tyres in Wikipedia is outdated on many accounts. Our current CEO is Jukka Moisio, and Bridgestone has not been our largest minority shareholder for a while now.
There are also other outdated references, for instance: CEO Kim Gran describes the Russian consumer as having a "love affair" with the Nokian brand citing that it stems from tyres which fits the local weather conditions and a genuine need in the market. -> We have had 3 CEO's since Kim Grahn, referencing his view as if he was still in charge does not seem relevant In 2009, the North American market accounted for over 10% of the company's net sales (figure is 12 years old) Nokian Tyres has a tyre subsidiary based in LaVergne, Tennessee (USA). In that market, Nokian Tyres sell only to independent dealers, some of whom use the tyre products to fill in gaps in their product lines instead of an exclusive or majority share. This results in some dealers being knowledgeable about specific tyres but not Nokian Tyre's full tyre product range.[45] -> Completely outdated, stems from an article from 2005
Those are just to name a few. There are several notifications of the need to update the page which have been made already on 2019. Here are some useful links, if you could kindly check them out and make edits accordingly: https://www.nokiantyres.com/company/investors/share/major-shareholders/ https://www.nokiantyres.com/company/newsroom/ https://www.nokiantyres.com/company/about-us/ https://www.nokiantyres.com/company/investors/financials/annual-reports/

- I've fixed the formatting of your request and removed the edit request template, which is not for the Help Desk. To make an edit request for the article you mention, you should go to the article talk page, Talk:Nokian Tyres. You should first, however, review conflict of interest and paid editing for information on required formal disclosures you must make. You may also want to create an account so it is easier to make those declarations(though it is not required). 331dot (talk) 13:45, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
What to do about citations for Communities, (ie LGBTQIA+) under-represented in "Legitimate" Sources
I when looking up the proper format to cite for references when updating LGBT Articles particularly in re: Bisexual+ Topics, was distressed and stymied to find that History.com; The Medium; LiveJournal, some of HuffPo Queer et al seem to be frowned on. Given the undeniable issues that (1) there are just not THAT many Books or Articles by, for, about the Bi+ Community that are not Bizzaro Hogwash, Porn, or Hysterical Religious Tracts that are found in Mainstream Sources (2) the well-documented economic poverty of a Group, that itself is a Sub-group, of a still marginalized cultural group in much of the mainstream, so that disenfranchisement has forced them to turn to free/lowcost online media to publish. So now not sure what to do. CyntWorkStuff (talk) 21:38, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- CyntWorkStuff, if you haven't, try to ask this in a place like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:38, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- Gråbergs Gråa Sång, Thank you for that suggestion. I will try there also. In the meantime is it absolutely forbidden to use well sourced (ie original documents referenced in the articles) and by non-controversial authors, just because they were published on those platforms? Barry N. Haack
