Minnal FM (Radio 6) as the oldest Malaysian Tamil-language radio station operated by Radio Televisyen Malaysia was first broadcast on 24 August 1934 as ZHj Yayasan Wayarles Pulau Pinang.[1] The radio channel are aired in Tamil Language, Malayalam, Hindi and Telugu. It was the first 24-hour Indian language broadcast service for Malaysian Indians. The station mostly plays easy listening and Oldies from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s similar and related to to Oli 96.8FM in Singapore and Raaga in Malaysia as targeting listeners between the age of 50 to now. It is broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
History
The station started as ZHj Yayasan Wayarles Pulau Pinang operating of George Town, Penang on 24 August 1934. Tamil language broadcast in Straits Settlements started in 1938 together with the three other major languages spoken, namely Malay, English and Mandarin. Initially the programmes were aired from Singapore, Penang and Kuala Lumpur. A well-known broadcaster Mr. Tanjai Thomas supervised Tamil Broadcast from Kuala Lumpur.
