Nenshi
With respect, if you make a bold addition that is reverted, the next step is to discuss, not revert back. As it is, I fail to see the purpose of the "Nenshi vs. Ford" section. Bluntly, it reads as a coatrack designed to denigrate Ford and has very little to do with Nenshi. What does relate to Nenshi is basically just trivia - mayors very often bet on the outcome of championship games. At best, this is irrelevant. At worst, it pushes a point of view and synthesis of sources. In either case, it is rife with puffery and is presented non-neutrally. That is my view as of right now, but I would like to hear your views on why you feel this section is necessary. Thanks, Resolute 04:36, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
:Perhaps, but the danger in making such comparisons is in assuming too much. The media has made some comparisons, but for your efforts here, you have to limit to what reliable sources say about the comparison. For example, you can't take one source the praises Nenshi's response to Calgary's flood, and take a second source that criticizes Ford for his handling of Toronto's flash flood, then make a statement here about the relative reactions. That would be considered synthesizing sources, and is considered original research. I wish you luck in the editing, however. Cheers! Resolute 22:31, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
::The second paragraph needs to go. That particular scandal has nothing to do with Nenshi, so it is not appropriate to bring up here. Likewise, the third paragraph says nothing, really. The first paragraph is where you would want to make a brief expansion, giving a little more detail as to the nature of the comparison. From there we could seek additional opinions to determine if this passage warrants retention. Resolute 22:41, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
:::Getting better. It occurs to me that you haven't actually defined who Ford is. Most people outside Canada, and even some within, would have no idea who he is if you don't specify. Resolute 22:59, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
::::I can't really say yet, as I have to take a look at the sources. I'll try to do that soon, but I do have a few other things on the go at the moment. Thanks, Resolute 23:40, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

You don't need to resign from working here. You just need to follow the policies. There is a good legal reason why non-free material at Wikipedia can't reside anywhere but in article space. All you need to do, as Resolute said earlier, is comment out the image with a colon whilst it's in your userspace. When and if your draft is moved into article space, it can be removed. Simple as that. You're obviously an intelligent person, so how come this is such an issue? Besides it's not just the photograph of Mr Chumir, but Resolute seems to target me for some reason with other articles, and I try to edit as how he or she want, but for some odd reason I'm in Weirth's and his (Resolute's), radar lock-on for some reason. I realize that these measures are necessary to maintain order and high quality of data presented in our articles. However, to bite the head off new reporters is a bit much. Replaceable fair use File:Burnt_mary.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Burnt_mary.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 09:54, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Lauren Woolstencroft winning gold women down hill.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:23, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Iginla's milestones

[edit]

Hi Samsamcat, I wouldn't say you did anything wrong. I just made the minor change of removing the goaltender's name because I felt it improved the article stylistically. As a general rule, I try to avoid making similar statements in close succession, so "Iginla scored x goal against y goalie on z date" twice in a row felt awkward. That's why I made some small stylistic changes, including removing the goalies name. I personally think that for major milestones (1st goal, 500th, etc), the goalie is important. For his 30th of the year, less so. But that isn't a rule of any kind, just a preference.

One thing I would suggest for future editing is to include more complete references. It is great that you added a reference - Wikipedia is growing ever more insistent on them - but it helps to provide a greater level of detail. There is no single required format, though in cases like this article, it is best to follow the style already set down. Personally, I tend to use the cite web (/cite news/cite book/etc.) or citation family of templates when writing articles. But generally, and especially with online newspaper articles that are known to go offline at some point, you want to include the author's name, article link, article title, publication and date. This ensures that if (when) the online link goes dead, there remains enough information that another person could find the original source if desired.

With this all said, I am going to partially re-revert your change on the article to fix the citation formatting and restore the season link, but will leave the statement closer to your passage. Cheers! Resolute 13:49, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Samsamcat. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Yochai Porat".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the db-afc or db-g13 code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: , paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 10:04, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
