Includes playoffs?
[edit]For the tables in the "Total attendance" section, it should say whether the attendance numbers include the playoffs or are just for the regular season. (Which is it?)

[edit]CyMoahk2 + GrouchoPython - I see you both have done a bit of work on updating attendance #'s, stats, etc for NWSL season articles in the past. I was wondering if this article might be something you would be interested in helping update + publish? I've based it on a copy of the MLS attendance article and started updating the lead and some other sections. The following sections need updating (along with anything else you think would be good to add):
2016 season #'s, stadiums, capacity- NWSL attendance vs. other women's soccer leagues worldwide (could be shortened // hidden for now)
- NWSL Championship playoffs (not sure if data available // hidden for now)

- Ah, nice! I've had a rough draft of this article sitting on my computer for about a month now. X-D I'm definitely interested in helping here! Some of the sections on my rough draft included comparing NWSL to other US soccer leagues, as opposed to the other US women's sports leagues you've currently got. I'm also working on a year-by-year attendance table like the one already on the MLS attendance article. I'll see what updates I can throw on right now. Thanks for starting this Hmlarson! Requested move 27 November 2016
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: not moved due due to general consensus over COMMONNAME as brought up first by Steel1943. (non-admin closure) Tiggerjay (talk) 22:57, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
National Women's Soccer League attendance → NWSL attendance – commonname Hmlarson (talk) 21:23, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:59, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Hmlarson: Or would it be clearer to use the full name? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:59, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. NWSL is a redirect, which invalidates the WP:COMMONNAME claim since that would mean that National Women's Soccer League world be at NWSL, which it is not. Steel1943 (talk) 22:00, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose: per WP:CONSISTENCY - the main article is at National Women's Soccer League not NWSL; either all pages related to the National Women's Soccer League should change or none should. Ebonelm (talk) 23:14, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose: also per WP:CONSISTENCY - the article this one is intended to mirror is Major League Soccer attendance, not MLS attendance. CyMoahk2 (talk) 23:22, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Support re: WP:CONSISTENCY - either this should be changed to NWSL attendance or the following should be changed in reverse:
- NWSL expansion
- NWSL Player Allocation
- List of NWSL drafts
- NWSL College Draft
- NWSL Player of the Week
- NWSL awards
- NWSL Player of the Month
- NWSL Playoffs
- List of foreign NWSL players
- 2014 NWSL Expansion Draft
- 2013 NWSL College Draft
- 2015 NWSL College Draft
- 2016 NWSL College Draft
- NWSL Shield
et al... Hmlarson (talk) 00:21, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- You mean like...
- MLS SuperDraft
- MLS Cup Playoffs
- List of foreign MLS players
- MLS Best XI
- etc.?
- My point here is that "consistency" is relative. I don't know what the people who work with MLS articles generally do, but in my opinion I would prefer we use "National Women's Soccer League __" for any article that's more encyclopedic and "NWSL __" for any article that's more casual parlance, if that makes any sense. Or just mirror how the MLS articles are already split. CyMoahk2 (talk) 03:18, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- Sure, I can see it both ways. When I google "NWSL attendance" vs "National Women's Soccer League attendance", I don't get the article in the results for the former - how about you? There's something to be said for WP:COMMONNAME - particularly when the league's own website homepage only lists the full league name in the footer and HTML title. Hmlarson (talk) 03:41, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose per Steel1943. The proposed new title should be kept as a redirect. SSTflyer 10:51, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. From CyMoahk2's comment above, it seems that the consistency argument doesn't quite work in this case. However, there is a reason why the main article is not at NWSL and that is WP:RECOGNIZABILITY, and in particular MOS:ACRONYMTITLE. NWSL is not a household name in the same way that NASA or CIA is, and it is therefore preferable to spell it out. The same should apply to the other articles in the list above, in my opinion. — Amakuru (talk) 12:32, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
Individual game highest attendance
[edit]Why is there a separate section for "Doubleheaders with other teams" when that list contains only one entry? Wouldn't it better be served by an footnote like the asterisk for the "Sell Out"? Is there a relevant part of the style guide or a compelling reason these two lists shouldn't be combined? Is there another article where the same distinction is made?

Attendance record
[edit]@Seany91: I saw you reverted my update of the single-match attendance record despite the reliable sources verifying it. If it is true that there are multiple 2024 matches yet to be added to the table, shouldn't we be adding them and not removing them? Seems counterproductive. — AFC Vixen 🦊 21:29, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- I personally edit records and stats once a year at the end of the season – tracking weekly changes is more effort than I personally am able to devote here. Of course recognizing that every editor has their own preferences, so if you want to add to it in the middle of the season, please do feel free! But like all other stats-related edits, factual accuracy and correctness are paramount, so if you're gonna do it don't just change the one game you heard about – check all the games between the existing and the new date stamps. - See, i.e., 2024 National Women's Soccer League season#Highest attendances. Seany91 (talk) 15:20, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate the referral to highest attendances section of that article, though I will say that I simply do not see the difficulty of adding, what was in the end, just two matches to the table. It took me just five minutes to do so. — AFC Vixen 🦊 14:20, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
- Seems like 5 minutes well spent for you then! Thanks for adding. Seany91 (talk) 15:26, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
