I cannot find an official website for this huge government computer project. Is there one? It seems like the kind of product for which there would be a website, even if that site is not in English. ::It was a poorly written Lysenkoist trash, almost wholly unsourced, written by some disgruntled reactionary Indian socialist whose pissed that computers took away his job or whatever. Thanks for fixing it. On another note, the claim made in the "history" section that BBC and CNN gave it a "thumbs down" is not found in the cited sources. Both BBC and CNN gave it a detailed critique, listing the positive and negative aspects. I did not see any mention of "thumbs down", or any such equivalent. Seems to me to be a typical sort of statement made by an illiterate Indian wiki-socialist from some black hole in Calcutta, who is frustrated that his party lost to a free-market-advocating one, so I tagged it. The statement needs modification that adequately summarizes what the refs actually say, as opposed to what some uneducated mentally retarded wiki-warrior thinks it says.117.194.195.61 (talk) 13:05, 4 November 2011 (UTC) |

:UbiSlate7+ was supposed to have a front facing camera for video conferencing, but I haven't seen any specifications or photo/video of this camera, including in the Datawind website. And I do know that none of Datawinds' Aakash-es have rear cameras. Also, Govt. is announcing Aakash 2 specs this April. --Ne0Freedom 20:47, 20 January 2012 (UTC) |

: Yes, that is the story for UbiSlate 7, as stated in the sections "Reception" and "Plans". Aakash II specification is expected to be released sometime soon. Tablet & keyboard in wallet ? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7864806.stm
"... motherboard, its chip, the processing, connectivity, all of them cumulatively cost around $35, including memory, display, everything"

Sounds like a list of parts costing $35 in volume & they're looking for a partner to make it for <$100. Good luck !
USB hard disk + (media player ?) + content ?

Or is it another typo - not $35 but $350 ?

"Olive unveils India's First 3G Tablet" - almost plausible at Rs.25,000 = £350 = $700 ?

Is there an official site for this thing?
[edit]I cannot find an official website for this huge government computer project. Is there one? It seems like the kind of product for which there would be a website, even if that site is not in English. Blue Rasberry (talk) 03:20, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
This might be what you are looking for: http://www.ubislate.com/
I believe UbiSlate is another name for the same device. 62.232.250.50 (talk) 11:36, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Heat exposure
[edit]I can't find more detailed information, but it's also supposedly going through quality testing for prolonged heat exposure. [1] -Legaia (talk) 22:14, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]The article currently has image of the prototype. We need to update it to a image of the actual released version of the product. Abhishikt (talk) 02:21, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Content for Aakash
[edit]A $35 tablet available to Indian Students is a true turning point in accessibility of Educational Content to common Man and Woman. This can and will be leveraged to improve lifes. I am wondering, if there is educational content available to be deployed on Aakash and how is that accessbile? Also, what is the target student segment for this tablet? Is it college students/ High-School or younger students? Thanks for the information. Sachin — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.145.3.20 (talk) 11:30, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Article has no intro
[edit]The article has no concise overview of the tablet; it starts off in a convoluted recitation of history. 842U (talk) 22:52, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- It was a poorly written Lysenkoist trash, almost wholly unsourced, written by some disgruntled reactionary Indian socialist whose pissed that computers took away his job or whatever. The statement needs modification that adequately summarizes what the refs actually say, as opposed to what some uneducated mentally retarded wiki-warrior thinks it says.117.194.195.61 (talk) 13:05, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Added a section on Aakash (tablet)#Criticism. However, need to talk about the misadventure of Sakshat. Veryhuman (talk) 22:37, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- Learn some English and basic education first. Next, learn about some wikipedia policies, specifically, WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, and WP:ATT. Wikipedia is not the place for spreading propaganda against a product, or for promoting some mentally retarded reactionary Bengali-Indian socialism. The notion that Sakshat was "misadventure" is pure Original research. No cited sources refer to any "misadventures", only detailed and balanced critiques (that this section does not reflect).117.194.196.144 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:53, 6 November 2011 (UTC).
- Hey, c'mon man! No need to get so worked up! Btw, the original prototype indeed opened to scathing reviews. See Example.Th wiki entry is not for advertising/singing glories of Sakshat but to make an encyclopedic entry. Assume good faith.Veryhuman (talk) 21:23, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Still not buying it. Linking the original prototype to the current version is Original research unless backed up by reliable sources. If anything, this [foul language removed - please moderate your tongue] Indian Socialist-fest of an article is highly POV and hostile to the aakash simply because some BBC paedophile says so.117.194.197.194 (talk) 10:08, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

History is not written properly
[edit]History doesnt seem to be written with W:NPOV. Plus, Sakshat was the original version of Aakash. No talk about that too. Needs to be added in for NPOV else current page reads more like a technical specifications page. Veryhuman (talk) 22:36, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Design section
[edit]What is this section? Is it from the tender? Is it the current specs? It seems voluminous... but again carries no explanation of what this information refers to. 842U (talk) 14:30, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

1GB RAM not true?
[edit]Ubislate 7 comes loaded with great features at an excellent price of Rs. 3000 only. At this price, one gets the facility of both GPRS and Wi-Fi, which helps you stay connected all the time. It is perfect for 24*7 anywhere web access. It also has the functionality of a mobile phone. The processor speed is 700 MHz which makes it three times that of the original tablet. It has a battery of 3200 maH, and lasts for up to 5 hours. It comes with a headphone/mic plus integrated speaker. -http://www.akashtablet.com/ubislate7tablet.html

Made in China?
[edit]The Han chauvinist editor Ne0Freedom keeps adding that the device is made in China, citing these references as proof of this assertion [2],[3]. None of the cited sources mention that the device is made in china. Is wikipedia a front for Chinese government propaganda or what?117.194.201.105 (talk) 06:26, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yes it is "made in China"[4][5][6][7]
front for Chinese government? LOL ! I say it is the other way around, that Datawind is trying to sell it's chinese made Ubislate7 on the popularity of it's "Made in India" Aakash! Shakshat/Aakash has always been the pet project of Indian Ministry of Education (HRD), and datawind wants to ride it's popularity with a "made in china" version.- The "sources" you cited are all dated AFTER your wikipedia edit, suggesting that they simply copied your wikipedia edit into their articles. Circular referencing is a big problem with this "encyclopedia".Learnomlette (talk) 06:24, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- Which edit? Also, "made in China" is very old news, new information suggests the contract for UbiSlate 7+ is going to a company in Taiwan. & Even newer information suggests that the Taiwanese company COULD set up manufacturing plants in India for this.[8] --Ne0Freedom 12:59, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- FYI, China is not Taiwan unless you are a Han Chauvinist (or a sympathizer) and believe that Taiwan is Chinese property. So which is it? China or Taiwan? Furthermore, I fail to see where in the ref above does it say "made in China" or "Taiwan". It merely says that Taiwan contributed significantly, a fact that is already mentioned in the article. More Han Nationalist propaganda 117.194.196.65 (talk) 14:04, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- Initially the news said "Made in China", which then changed to "Made in Taiwan", and now it's "made by Taiwanese comapny". Here is the exact qoute I was refering to in the above article: "Taiwanese firms may set up manufacturing plants here to assemble the tablets". FYI, personally, I consider neither Tibet, nor Taiwan to be a part of China. --Ne0Freedom 16:34, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

It is clearly specified bu Data wire that the akash 2 will be made in India by quad-electronics a Hyderabad based company — Preceding unsigned comment added by Varun77sports (talk • contribs) 09:50, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- I suspect that the Ubislate7 is NOT the "Aakash2" announced by Datawind. Ubislate7 does not seem to have the announced 1GB Ram, or the camera that was in the Aakash2 announcement. To further analyze the situation, look at what Datawind didn't say. Datawind websites have clearly refrained from calling the Ubislate7 as Aakash2 !!! I have a hunch that the actual Aakash2 would be one of the tablets planned for the future and could also get the student discount just like the original Aakash.--Ne0Freedom 16:53, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Ubislate renaming
[edit]According to Digit, the original Akash has been renamed Ubislate.[9] -- Trevj (talk) 21:01, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, It's also mentioned here. Ubislate Official Website Abdul rajaT 01:27, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I saw that trick. I was right, DataWind IS trying to sell it's foreign made tablet on the popularity of the Shakshat/Aakash project, by creating confusion between the two. Let's just call them Aakash or Aakash-1 and Ubislate 7+ or Ubislate-7+ so as to avoid confusion between the two.--Ne0Freedom 08:46, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- That's Fine. But i guess there is no need to mention the first version as Aakash-1 as the upgraded version name is different. Review it. Thanks. Abdul rajaT 09:50, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

BIOS inside ROM
[edit]Hi, I see BIOS has been used in a different meaning under Memory. Actually BIOS is stored in ROM. I request someone to verify it and change the article accordingly. Thanks. Abdul rajaT 14:02, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- In desktop Desktop & Laptop computers the ROM is exclusively for storing the BIOS. But in Android Tablets & Smartphones the Android Operating System and all installed Applications are stored on the ROM. For example, CyanogenMod ROM image is a popular alternative Android Firmware. Google "ROM Flashing" for more info. --Ne0Freedom 14:58, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
The device(UBIslate7+ or Aakash 2) does have a camera.
[edit]I have read some articles that it have a VGA front and rear cameras. I will try to find them and link them. I tried to change it on the article but the bot reversed it. Source 1Pteek (talk) 11:28, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- UbiSlate7+ was supposed to have a front facing camera for video conferencing, but I haven't seen any specifications or photo/video of this camera, including in the Datawind website. And I do know that none of Datawinds' Aakash-es have rear cameras. Also, Govt. is announcing Aakash 2 specs this April. --Ne0Freedom 20:47, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Okay. We will wait for the device or more accurate specs then. I mailed data wind but no response from them.Pteek (talk) 12:37, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

The comparison table should include a feature of front camera so that we could see which models have front camera & which do not have. The Micromax funbook may be included in the comparison table. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.167.168.246 (talk) 16:26, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Alternative Cheap Tablets
[edit]NOVO7 is the first Android 4.0 table, starting at $89. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 16:43, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Not exactly. It seems to be $80-100 initial cost + about $40-60 shipping.[10] So, total cost to customer is between $120 to $160 -different sites are giving different prices. --Ne0Freedom 19:42, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Cancelled?
[edit]The New York Times is reporting that the Indian government has rejected the finished tablets and the companies DataWind and Quad Electronic are under a financial dispute.[11], [12] A telling of this story should be included in the article. Diego (talk) 21:15, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, that is the story for UbiSlate 7, as stated in the sections "Reception" and "Plans". Aakash II specification is expected to be released sometime soon. Then, there will be a Govt. contract auction (tender) to decide which companies will make the tablets and how many.--Ne0 (talk) 07:23, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Blanking of a Section
[edit]Please, readd the blanked section. Do not do so again without stating a thorough reason why. HeartGlow30797 (talk) 08:20, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- Removed a non comprehensive, non exhaustive, non encyclopedic and advertorial (though bsolete) technical comparison table between an outdated tablet and its competitors. It has no relevance on an encyclopedia. Pratat (talk) 08:36, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
